Williamstown, Mass. – The Williams College (1-0/ NESCAC 1/0) men's lacrosse team defeated Trinity College (0-1/ NESCAC 0-1) 15-12 in the first game of the season for both teams. The Ephs broke a 12 all tie in the fourth quarter with three unanswered goals; two from Michael Fahey and one from Riley Hoffman. Williams extended its win streak over the Bantams to five with the victory. The first half of the game started off with a run by the Trinity Bantams, winning the first face off and scoring the first two goals of the game. The Ephs proceeded into 2nd quarter tied with Bantams 2-2 with goals from Brendan Hoffman and Thomas Fowler. The second quarter of the game started off in a similar fashion with Trinity scoring the next three goals of the quarter, two by John Caraviello and one from Max Herman. Williams answered the 5-2 lead with a goal by Ben Fox assisted by Michael Fahey. Trinity came back with a goal by Matty Gardiner. An Eph comeback was constructed when Williams scored two goals late in the second quarter with one by Max Stukalin and Thomas Fowler again. Trinity took a 6-5 lead into the half time intermission. The third quarter started off on a great note for the Ephs with a face-off win by Brian Bissell along with a goal by Max Stukalin to tie the score for the first time in the second half. Both teams traded goals and then Williams took the lead for the first time in the game by a score from freshman John Hincks. The Ephs tallied two more goals in the quarter and Trinity then answered with three in a row. Trinity's Ben Knauss scored with just 31 seconds remaining in the quarter on a feed from Stefan Pappas to make it 10 all heading into the final quarter. Williams took a 12-10 lead early in the fourth quarter on goals by Thomas Fowler and James McFarland and wth Michael Fahey and Brendan Hoffman earning assists. Trinity responded with two goals from Jack Sharrio and Ben MacShane and the game was tied for the fourth time. Williams broke the tie with a crease crank from captain Michael Fahey on a feed from Max Stukalin. Eph goalie George Peele then recorded an assist by sending a long pass to the midfield to a streaking Riley Hoffman who fired in a low shot to boost the Eph lead to 14-12 with 5:37 left in the game. Michael Fahey tallied the final goal of the game unassisted to give the Ephs the 15-12 win. Eph head coach McCormack said "That was a hard fought win, Trinity played well. I thought we executed well in the 3rd and 4th quarter, Fayhey and Fowler stood out for us and it was nice to see our six freshmen contribute". The Eph attack was led by Fowler and Stukalin with Fowler netting 4 goals and Stukalin adding 3. Michael Fahey also had two goals and registered four assists. The Bantams were led by John Caraviello who scored four goals and Ben Knaus added two goals. Ben MacShane was also a key player with two goals and one assist. Williams' goalie George Peele played 60:00 and had 8 saves and allowed 12 goals. Trinity's goalie Woody Hamilton played 60:00 also and had 14 saves and allowed 15 goals. The Ephs will play their next game on Wednesday March 8th at home against Union College at 6:00 p.m., while Trinity will take to the road on March 7th and play at Skidmore. The Bantams will play next at Skidmore College on Tuesday March 7th.
