WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's lacrosse team extending its winning streak to three games after besting Lafayette, 16-14, in a senior day Patriot League showdown at Michie Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights (10-3, 3-2 Patriot League) had seven different goal scorers, including five with multi-goal outings, in the home victory over the Leopards (5-8, 1-4 Patriot League). In one of her final games on the banks of the Hudson, senior Manuela Cortes put forth a dominant offensive outing after she tallied four goals on just five shots. She also handed out a pair of helpers for six points, tying her career high. Samantha Stewart and Caroline Raymond also finished with hat tricks, while Stewart added a trio of assists and ground balls to her stat line. The duo of Jackie Brattan and Taylor Andrews combined for four of the Cadets' 16 goals after scoring two apiece. In goal, Hannah Slomkowski played a major role in the contest, coming away with seven saves and her second win of the year. ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES Army reached the 10-win mark for the second straight year. Brattan became Army's all-time single-season scoring leader with 41 goals. She recorded double-digit draw controls for the second time this year after notching 10. Cortes posted her seventh hat trick of the year. It was the senior's second four-goal performance of the season. Stewart tallied her sixth hat trick of the season. The junior passed Erin Jollota for third in all-time assists. She tied Kiersten Spencer for second in program history with 74 career ground balls. Raymond took sole possession of ninth in all-time scoring with 25 goals. The rookie posted her third-career hat trick. Olivia Carter had a three-point game after scoring once and dishing out two helpers. Army was 14-of-15 on clears and a perfect 10-of-10 in the second half. The Black Knights improved to 2-2 all-time versus Lafayette. HOW IT HAPPENED An Andrews' score got the action started less than a minute into the game, giving Army the early 1-0 edge. However, it turned into a back-and-forth affair for most of the half. The Leopards trailed 5-3 with less than 20 minutes remaining before going on a 3-0 run to grab their first lead of the afternoon. With 9:29 on the clock, Lafayette went ahead 8-7, but three different Cadets scored during a 3-0 Army run to put the Black Knights in front, 10-8, heading into the half. The Leopards got within one during the early portion of the new frame. However, Army put in four goals during a three-minute stretch to extend its advantage to four, 14-10. Both offenses began to quiet down for a bit as only one goal was scored in over eight minutes of play and it came from the Leopards. The Black Knights would respond with 16:08 left after Cortes found Raymond for the goal to give Army a 15-11 lead. Slomkowski was on fire in the second half, stopping multiple shots sent her way. Her ability to keep the ball out of the net allowed the Black Knights to maintain their lead down the stretch. Despite Lafayette piecing together a 3-1 run late in the contest, the Cadets were able to hang on to secure the league win.
