BOSTON – The Boston University women's lacrosse team saw its Senior Day spoiled as Army West Point snapped its four-game win streak, handing the Terriers a 15-9 defeat Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. BU netted the opening goal of the game, but the Black Knights answered with a 4-0 run over a 10-minute span to pull ahead and never looked back. The Terriers could never quite get their offense firing on all cylinders, dropping its first home game since March 3. Kailey Conry and Hannah Kenneally paced the attack with three-point days apiece, while Kenneally and Mackenzie Howe were the lone Terriers to find the back of the net multiple times. Kaitlin Belval and Emily Vervlied posted strong efforts at the midfield, as each forced a pair of turnovers and won two draw controls. How it Happened Emily Vervlied powered through a trio of defenders and fired an off-balance shot into the back of the net just under a minute into play. Army West Point churned out a 4-0 run to lead by three with 17:23 left in the half. Mackenzie Howe broke an 18-minute scoring drought by dodging from the wing to get the Terriers within two. Kenneally struck for two straight goals, sending in a free position shot and scoring on a man-up situation, cutting the deficit 5-4 with 7:36 left in the half. Working off two free position opportunities, Army capitalized on BU's mistakes to push out a 7-4 edge at the half. The Black Knights erupted for two straight goals in the opening minutes of the second half to further their advantage to 9-4. Looking for a spark, Kelly Mathews scored in transition off a feed from Belval to breathe life into the Terrier attack. Kailey Conry kept the momentum rolling by working from behind the cage for a solo score before feeding Ava Barry to cut the deficit to two with 23:42 remaining. However, Army answered once again, this time pulling a 3-0 streak to lead, 12-7, with 16:38 to play. Maddie MacMaster slotted her in her sixth goal to break an 18-minute scoring dearth, but Army used another 3-0 run to put the game out of reach. Game Notes Saturday marked the first time the Terriers have lost to Army. The Black Knights posted a 14-10 lead in draw controls, including a 10-3 mark in the second half. Bianca Smith came on for the remaining 15 minutes, making a key trio of saves immediately to keep BU in the game. Despite the loss, BU can finish no lower than No. 4 in the Patriot League standings. Additionally, the Terriers will host a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal round game on Sunday, April 28. Up Next The Terriers will host Navy for the final game of the regular season on Thursday, April 25 at 4 p.m.
