The LIU women's lacrosse team extended their win streak at home Saturday, beating Bryant 11-8 to improve to 7-1 overall, and 5-1 in the Northeast Conference. Eight different Sharks scored in the win at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium. The game was an exciting one, as the Bulldogs would play the Sharks evenly. They would score first, before Rachel Masullo, Jamie Alvino and Paige Sherlock scored three straight to give LIU a 3-1 lead 10 minutes in. Bryant would score once more in the first half, but Whitney Moran added an unassisted goal, and LIU led, 4-2 at the half. At the start of the second half, Francesca Vasile-Cozzo added one to LIU's total off a pass from Sherlock, but then Bryant went into action. The visitors would score three straight goals in the span of less than a minute, to tie it up, 5-5. Sherlock and Sara Stephens would score to put LIU back up, 7-5, but again, Bryant scored back-to-back goals in 20 seconds to tie it up, 7-7 with 21 minutes left to play. Freshman Jen Gaffney would score, but Bryant scored again, and with 11 minutes left, the two teams were tied, 8-8. Madeline Schaefer would score a goal on a free position shot with eight minutes left, putting LIU up, 9-8, but the Sharks didn't get breathing room until the final four minutes. Alvino would score an unassisted goal that made the buffer 10-8, and with 90 seconds left, Vasile-Cozzo found Rachel Masullo, and she scored to make it 11-8. The Sharks defense kept the Bulldogs from getting any late shots off, and LIU would clinch the win, 11-8. Goalie Hailey Duchnowski would finish with 12 saves in the win, while Vasile-Cozzo finished with a goal and four assists to lead LIU. Sherlock, Masullo and Alivino each had two goals in the win. Sherlock also had three caused turnovers, three ground balls, and two draw controls. Up next, the Sharks head south to take on Mount St. Mary's, Wednesday, April 7 at 3 p.m.
