The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team had a three-goal lead late in the second quarter but couldn't make it stand up as the visiting College of Wooster Fighting Scots soured the Senior Day celebration by escaping town with an 11-10 win. Jay Messina's hat trick goal with 3:01 left to play in the opening half gave Oberlin an 8-5 cushion but the Scots would score the final goal of the second quarter and cut the deficit down to one with the first tally of the third. Oberlin was held to just two goals over the final 30 minutes of play, which allowed the Scots complete the comeback. Griffin Cappelletti cashed in a Tom Decker feed three minutes into the third quarter to make it a 9-7 Yeomen advantage but Oberlin would not find twine again until just 10 seconds remained in the game. Four straight Scots' scores from the end of the third into the fourth gave them an 11-9 edge until Decker's fourth goal of the game in the closing seconds gave the Yeomen a sliver of hope but the Scots would win the ensuing face-off to ice the game away. Decker finished with six points, adding two assists to his four scores. One of eight seniors who was honored prior to the game, Elie Small capped his career on the Bailey Field turf with a goal and two assists to go along with five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior goalie Calvin Filson stood tall throughout the 60-minute affair as he made a career-high 19 saves to run his career total to 424. Messina netted both of Oberlin's first-quarter goals as he was setup by Thomas Berle Carman on the Yeomen's initial tally of the game before Small found him on the doorstep later in the frame to make it a 3-2 Scots' lead after one period. The Yeomen erupted for six goals in the second quarter to take control of the game. Back-to-back Decker deposits were followed by senior Dan Nerenhausen's fourth goal of the year to give Oberlin a 5-3 advantage. After a Wooster response, finishes from Small and Decker made it a 7-4 gap for the home team with 10:55 left to play in the half before the tide started to turn in the Scots favor. Oberlin's Max McAllister went 18-of-24 at the face-off spot and picked up a game-high 10 ground balls as the Yeomen ended with a slight 36-34 margin in total ground balls. Wooster, which moved to 6-9 overall and 4-2 in the NCAC, outshot the Yeomen 56-33, which included a 30-21 differential in shots on goal.
