WHITTIER, Calif. - Senior Breanainn McNeally scored eight goals and set up two others to lead the No. 18 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team to a 16-9 win at Whittier College. The victory was the second in four games for RPI this season and the 509th in 900 games in the history of the program. This season is the 75th for Rensselaer's program. The two teams traded the first four goals of the game before the Engineers (2-2) rattled off four straight and eight of the next nine. Zack Lucas scored twice and McNeally once in the late stages of the first quarter for a 5-2 lead after one. McNeally, an attack, added four goals in the second quarter, including his fifth of the game with only 24 seconds left for a 10-3 advantage at the break. Lucas and Jake Weidner had two goals in the first 30 minutes for RPI, while Whittier got a pair of markers from Ashton Pieris. Rensselaer attempted 19 more shots (29-10) than the Poets (4-2). Whittier came out of the locker room and scored two of the first three goals of the second half, but Weidner and McNeally both found the back of the cage for a 13-5 lead midway through the third quarter. The Poets outscored RPI 4-3 the rest of the way, including a pair of goals with under a minute remaining, for the final margin of 16-9. Lukas (2 goals, 2 assists) and CJ Kigar (1 goal, 3 assists) both finished with four points, Weidner scored three times and Matthew Gilman and Tom Feenstra both had a goal and an assist. Feenstra and JP McGrady added four ground balls apiece with McGrady going 6 of 8 from the X. David Gibbs made three saves in just over 35 minutes and Parker Smith stopped five shots. Alex Cramer had 19 saves on the other end.
