The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team was unable to get by Brown, falling 18-11 at LaValle Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves move to 0-3 on the season, while Brown now sits at 1-1. Nagle's Reaction "I thought this game was a learning experience for our young team," said head coach Jim Nagle. " We did not respond well to Brown's energy and tempo of play. I know I've challenged this young team this season, but I think we will come out of this a better team." Highlights Stony Brook was the first on the board as freshman Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.) buried a pass from senior Kyle Abdellatif (Ballston Spa, N.Y.). Brown responded to the early goal with six straight scores before freshman Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario) went behind-the-back on a feed from Walsh to break up the run. Production slowed for both teams in the second quarter, but Brown dominated, scoring four the period's five goals. Sophomore Chris Pickel, Jr., tried to spark Stony Brook to start the second half when classmate Cory VanGinhoven (Fort Mill, N.C.) found him on the left side. Junior Jerry Brown (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added his first of the season minutes later, but the Bears answered with three goals to close out the quarter. The Seawolves closed out the game with a late four-goal run, but the difference was too much to overcome. Notes Six players earned multiple points in the game, as Walsh led the way with two goals and three assists in his first start. Freshman Ryan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) made his third straight start in cage, but was replaced after the first quarter by sophomore Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.) who finished with seven saves, allowing 10 goals. Up Next Stony Brook has a quick turnaround as Hofstra will come to town on Tuesday, Feb. 27 for a 7 p.m. game at LaValle Stadium.
