The Westminster College men's lacrosse team won, 10-8, over non-conference opponent Neumann University in their home-opener on Saturday. Titan junior Chris Slater (Plum, PA / Central Catholic) scored the first point of the game after receiving a pass from senior Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) at the 10:42 mark of the first quarter. Westminster (2-1) went up 3-0 after a goal by sophomore Shane Fisher (Palm Harbor, FL / East Lake) (9:39) and junior Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) (7:07). Neumann (2-3) went on a 4-0 run to take its first lead (4-3) with 6:55 left. Colin Blake, Drew Conlon, Brett McLaughlin, and Ryan McNichol each had a goal for the Knights. Titan junior Tyler Nordby (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills) found Shorts for the tying score (4-4) with 1:49 remaining. The Titans opened the second quarter with a 3-0 run, with the last one coming at 7:57 by Nordby. Freshman Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) and Shorts earned the other goals. The Knights, however, answered with a 3-0 run of their own and the game was tied 7-7 at halftime. Colin, Chris Augustine, and Max Nice each had a goal for Neumann. Both teams traded a goal in the early minutes of the third quarter as Drew Conlon put Neuman up, 8-7, less than 30 seconds into the second half and the Titans answered 10 seconds later as Rosa found Slater. The scored remained the same for the rest of the frame and the game was tied at 8 at the end of three. In the fourth, Shorts scored at the 13:35 mark for the eventual game-winning goal; Slater earned the assist. Slater added insurance with a score with less than seven minutes remaining (Rosa had the assist). Rosa now has a team-high nine goals on the season, while Shorts has seven. Titan senior goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) collected a season-high 18 saves in a complete-game effort. Hall, senior Reid Lutz (Pittsburgh, PA / West Allegheny), and senior Matt Trella (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) each had a team-high three ground balls. Westminster will head to Greensboro, NC for a pair of nonconference games. The Titans will play at Greensboro College on Monday, March 11 at 3 p.m., followed by a game at Guilford College on Wednesday, March 13 at 5 p.m.
