NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Washington & Jefferson men's lacrosse team fell in PAC action to Westminster, 9-6, on Wednesday, April 10, in New Wilmington, Pa. The loss brings the Presidents' overall record to 5-7 this season and 0-3 in the PAC. The Titans are now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in conference. Trailing 1-0 after the first nine-plus minutes of the game, W&J got on the board with a goal by Alex Strain (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) at the 5:38 mark of the first quarter. The Presidents took their first lead of the game, 2-1, just over a minute later with an unassisted strike from Benjamin Ward (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). Unfortunately for the Red & Black, Westminster answered with four consecutive goals. The Presidents halted the run with a man-up tally from Ward with 50 seconds left in the first half. Behind 5-3 in the third quarter, W&J knotted the match at 5-5 with back-to-back goals. Pat Brunner (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and Reilly Oliverio (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) combined for the two goals, with Ward earning an assist on both scores. Westminster was again ready for the Presidents' rally, as they went on to score the next for goals to take a 9-5 advantage. Mark Mandak (Enola, Pa./Trinity) added one more tally to the Red & Black's final total, but it wasn't enough in a 9-6 loss. Following tonight's game, Ward is now tied for fifth on W&J's all-time assists leaderboard with 47, and fifth in goals with 103. Noah Cohen (Hewlett, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) played all 60 minutes in goal for W&J, making 14 saves in a strong effort. Cohen has made double-digit saves in each of his last four games and he paces the PAC with 174 saves this season. The Presidents will be on the road this weekend, as they travel to Franciscan on Saturday, April 13, for a 1 p.m. match.
