Hofstra raced out to a 7-1 lead and went on to defeat Drexel, 16-8, at Vidas Field on Saturday, spoiling Senior Day for the Dragons. The Pride improved to 2-2 in the CAA, while Drexel fell to 1-3 in conference play. Drexel will now need to win next week at Delaware and get some help if it is to return to the Colonial Athletic Association Championships, which begin in less than two weeks. Hofstra's Alex Moeser had a big day for the Pride. He scored three of the first four goals and finished the day with five points. All three of Moeser's goals came with him dodging a Drexel defender on the right side and firing an open shot past Drexel's Chre Teitelbaum. Moeser's second of the game came with just 10 seconds to go in the first quarter. The Pride's Kyle Gallagher would then win the face off and head right for the Drexel cage. He fired a shot into the net with just four ticks to go in the first quarter and the Pride went up 3-0. Hofstra retained at least a three-goal lead the rest of the way. The lead swelled to as many as nine goals before the Dragons scored three straight even strength goals midway through the fourth quarter. Reid Bowering scored with 9:06 to go for his fourth goal of the contest. Matt Varian had the next two. Varian finished the day with four goals and two assists. Bowering and Varian were the only ones who could score off the team with the top scoring defense in the nation. Jimmy Yanes and Ryan Tierney each had three-goal games for Hofstra. Dylan Alderman added four points. The Pride outshot Drexel, 40-25. The Dragons once again struggled with turnovers. Drexel had nine turnovers in the first half and 14 in the game. Jimmeh Koita continued his stellar play. The face-off specialist won 15 of his 27 attempts and had 10 ground balls. Teitelbaum finished the game with 11 saves, while Hofstra's Jack Concannon made seven stops. The Dragons end the regular season next Friday night at Delaware. Face-off is at 7:30 p.m.
