Junior Jared Bernhardt scored five first half goals, and Maryland held off a late push from Richmond to clinch a 10-9 win Saturday. The five goals tied a career-high for Bernhardt, while five other Terps got into the scoring column to power the team to its third consecutive 2-0 season start. Maryland was dominant from the faceoff X, as Austin Henningsen and Justin Shockey combined to go 20-23 on the day. Henningsen was particularly effective, finishing a perfect 15-for-15 in the game. Fifth-year senior Danny Dolan made 11 saves for the second consecutive game, including four in the fourth quarter to help Maryland secure the win. The hosts got off to a fast start at Maryland Stadium, as Bernhardt and sophomore Bubba Fairman both netted goals in the first five minutes of action. Richmond would manage two goals in the opening quarter, but Bernhardt added two more of his own to put his team ahead 4-2 at the end of the period. The Terps kept the momentum rolling into the second, outscoring Richmond 4-1. After a goal from Tyler Shoults at 9:37, the Terps answered with a three-goal run to end the half and carried an 8-3 lead into the break. A man-up goal from Steven Shollenberger at 8:17 in the third quarter would push the lead to six, before the teams traded goals and Maryland headed into the fourth with a 10-5 lead. The Spiders came storming back in the fourth quarter, as Ryan Lanchbury went on a four-goal tear for the visitors. Penalties turned into opportunity for Richmond, as they climbed within one with 2:01 remaining. Henningsen came through in the clutch on the ensuing faceoff, winning his 15th of the afternoon to ensure possession for Maryland. A shot off the post and groundball pick up in the final minute sealed the deal, as the Terps ran out the clock to their second victory of the season.
