The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team (4-3) deadlocked scoring late, despite being up most of the way, but a mishap on the defensive end gave way to a Hartford (2-3) tally and the visiting Hawks took the contest, 11-10, Saturday evening at Campus Field. How it happened… By the first quarter's conclusion, SHU doubled up on Hartford winning 4-2 as Julian Garritano, Max Tuttle (2) and Joe Saggese netted tallies for the Pioneers. The second quarter's offensive output was equal by both teams as each squad pinned two more goals to their respective scores before breaking for the locker-room, 6-4. In the third period, the offense was again decided by just two goals as the Hawks allowed one SHU goal before emitting three uninterrupted, 7-6 (10:38). SHU went 2-1 before the final stanza began, 9-7. The intrastate rival managed to roll out the scoring and with momentum fired off three straight tallies in about a two-minute span, which included the go-ahead goal, to put the hosts down one, 10-9 (7:10). Max Tuttle knotted the game with just 73 ticks pictured on the clock but a late and crucial Pioneers' dysfunction gave light back to the Hawks as they were able to connect with just 18 seconds remaining to seal the game for good. The numbers… Tuttle provided five goals, one shy of game-high rights while causing two Hawks' miscues and corralling four ground balls. Saggese also influenced SHU's scoring crediting a hat trick and one helper in his performance. Nick Albanese picked up a game-best eight balls off the turf and caused a turnover to lead the Pioneers on the defensive end. Brooks Dutton captured 14 saves in net for the home team of his 25 shots faced. Up next… The Pioneers travel to the Keystone State for a battle with Robert Morris to open Northeast Conference play, Saturday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m.
