THE BASICS: - Score: MIT 14, Wentworth Institute of Technology 9 - Records: MIT (2-2); Wentworth (3-1) - Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Jack Barry Field) - The Lead: A 6-2 run during the second quarter gave MIT a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Thursday. Junior Graham Davis (Croton, Md.) generated a hat trick for the Engineers, helping him become the seventh player in program history to surpass 100 career goals. Kyle Doner led the way for the Leopards with three goals to go along with three groundballs. HOW IT HAPPENED: - Wentworth jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2:19 elapsed courtesy of strikes by Mike Coakley, Mark Howland, and Doner. MIT responded with its own three-goal spurt as solo efforts by senior Michael Traub (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) sandwiched a strike by freshman Jack Strachan (Moresville, N.C.). - A Howland marker 29 seconds into the second stanza gave Wentworth a slight edge. However, a blast by Strachan following the ensuing faceoff sparked MIT's game-changing 6-2 run that moved the score to 9-6 with 44 seconds left in the frame. Spencer Allen connected on a feed from Sean Farmer exactly 17 seconds later to cap the first-half scoring. - The third quarter was a defensive battle as the score remained unchanged until the final three minutes. Senior Harris Stolzenberg (Weston, Fla.) redirected a feed from Traub, who then found the back of the net to give the hosts an 11-7 advantage. - Jason Buck recorded a man-up goal after 18 seconds expired in the fourth quarter to end the Leopards' scoring drought. A brief exchange of goals followed, helping Wentworth narrow the gap to 12-9 after Doner's man-up strike at the 10:24 mark. This was as close as it would get as Davis netted two goals to wrap up the scoring. INSIDE THE NUMBERS: - Stolzenberg finished with three goals and three assists while Strachan and junior Mitch Turley (Westfield, Ind.) both generated hat tricks. Freshman Dylan Marlborough (Cutchogue, N.Y.) was 13-of-22 in faceoffs and collected a game-high eight groundballs. Freshman Jameson Kief (Plantsville, Conn.) and junior Christian Jamison (Huntington, N.Y.) both produced four groundballs and two caused turnovers while sophomore goalie Alexander Lynch (Roswell, Ga.) amassed 11 saves. - Kevin Butler earned three assists as Howland tallied two goals, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers. Killian Ryan paced the Leopards with five groundballs and added two caused turnovers while Adam Dufault produced 11 saves. - MIT finished with advantages in shots (40-30), groundballs (36-29), and faceoffs (17-of-26). The visitors were 3-of-5 in extra-man opportunities and held the Engineers scoreless during their four attempts.
