The freshmen starting attack of Chris French, Travis Fox and Peyton Gasche combined for nine goals and 12 assists to propel Adrian to a convincing 18-3 non-conference victory Saturday over visiting Mount St. Joseph in men's lacrosse action. More details to come later... THE BASICS = Final Score: Adrian College 18, Mount St. Joseph University 3 = Location: Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium, Adrian, Mich.; Weather conditions: Sunny, 43 degrees, Wind WNW 7 mph = Records: Adrian Bulldogs 3-5, Mount St. Joseph Lions 0-7 TOP 'DAWGS = Gasche led all scorers with eight points on two goals and a game-best six assists. He also posted a career-high 10 ground balls. = Freshman Max Leventis won 21 of 22 face-offs and scooped up 19 ground balls. = Fox ended up with a hat trick and three assists. He also had four ground balls. = French tied sophomore co-captain Kyle Sanderson with a game-high four goals and added three assists. = Freshman Grant Nesbitt chipped in two goals and six ground balls. THE OPPOSITION = Collin Matt led the Lions with a pair of goals. = Austin Lowery made 14 saves and four ground balls. = Bo Kuenning tied for the team lead with four ground balls and recorded a game-best three caused turnovers. HOW IT HAPPENED = Adrian sprouted to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and was never threatened the rest of the way. = French tallied the first two goals of the game from Gasche 20 seconds apart, beginning with 13 minutes and 14 seconds showing on the clock, to set the tone for a high-scoring opening stanza. = French scored four times, Sanderson and Fox had two goals apiece and Gasche and Nesbitt tallied one apiece in the decisive first quarter. Adrian took an 11-1 lead into the halftime break. = Matt won the face-off, picked up the ground ball and scored on the opening possession of the second quarter to get MSJ on the scoreboard. = MSJ scored both goals in the third quarter off the sticks of Matt and Noah Borgdorf while man-up. = The Bulldogs pulled away more in the fourth by outscoring the Lions 7-0 to account for the 15-goal win. = Adrian also dominated key statistical areas, including shots (57-4), shots on goal (32-4), face-off wins (23-2), ground balls (58-20), clears (19-for-20, 13-for-25). BEYOND THE BOXSCORE = Leventis ties the Adrian single-game ground balls record with 19. = UP NEXT = Adrian wraps up the non-conference slate next Saturday at home against Anderson (Indiana).
