Tallying its third victory in a row while remaining unbeaten on the road, Harvard men's lacrosse triumphed over Providence, 11-8, on Saturday afternoon at the Friar Lacrosse Complex. Senior Joe Lang led the offense with five points, while notching his first hat trick of the season with three goals, while classmate Carney Mahon and freshman Kyle Salvatore scored career-bests with two goals apiece. Senior Robert Shaw was tough to beat between the posts, making a season-high 14 saves. Harvard (4-1) got out to a 3-0 lead for the third-straight game, as Mahon, senior Morgan Cheek and Lang scored unassisted tallies. Lang completed his hat trick in a high-scoring second period, and coupled with goals from Mahon and sophomore Nigel Andrews, Harvard took a 7-4 lead over Providence (3-4) into the half. The Crimson had its biggest lead of the afternoon, 9-4, after two-straight goals to open the third quarter. Salvatore added two scores in the fourth, and the Harvard defense held strong in allowing its fewest goals of the season. The defense was also a perfect 3-for-3 on Providence extra-man opportunities. Harvard Highlights The five points for Lang tied a career-high, which he had totaled on three previous occasions. The hat trick was the seventh of his career. Shaw has made double-digit saves in every game this season, with the 14 saves against the Friars tying his season-best. Salvatore and Mahon each had two goals, which is the career-best for both players. Game Notes Harvard remains perfect all-time against Providence at 4-0. Cheek improved his point-streak to a remarkable 36 games. The Crimson won the ground ball battle, 22-14, and is undefeated this season (4-0) when collecting more ground balls. What's Next? Harvard returns home for the first of three-straight games at home when it takes on Brown for Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, March 17. The first face-off is set for 1 p.m.
