After an ode before the game to the late, legendary Williams coach Renzie Lamb, Farley-Lamb field was electric during today's beautiful Saturday afternoon match-up. The Williams College Ephs came out with determination to top the NESCAC leader Amherst College and did so with a great demonstration of poise. The Williams College Ephs (8-2/4-2 NESCAC) defeated the Amherst College Mammoths (10-1/5-1 NESCAC) 13-11 in today's rivalry match-up at Farley-Lamb Field on the campus of Williams College. Amherst took control early on and scored twenty seconds into the game off of a shot and goal from Jimmy McAfee assisted by Reid Shilling. Williams soon answered back with a goal of their own at 11:21 by a feed from Jake Haase and a crease-crank from Cory Lund. Three minutes later, Williams College took the lead at 2-1 off of an unassisted goal by Eph Calvin Collins. Twenty seconds later, Eph Brendan Hoffman ripped a shot and scored unassisted to secure an early Eph lead. At 7:21, Amherst came back with a bounce-shot and goal scored by Jackson Herrick with an assist by Jack Norton. Williams then scored two-straight goals by Ephs Matthew Seligson and Kevin to bring the game to 5 – 2 in favor of Williams. At 3:20, Kevin Stump shot from fifteen yards out and netted a goal unassisted to lengthen the lead. Williams was up 6 -2 going into the second quarter. Amherst netted the first goal of the second at 11:27 by Colin Minicus assisted by Robinson Armour which was soon topped by an Eph goal scored by Calvin Collins unassisted. At 5:52 Amherst scored off of a dunk by Colin Minicus assisted by Jon Coffey to bring the game to 7 – 4. Two minutes later, the Mammoths scored a second-straight goal from Jack Norton with an assist from Evan Wolf. With fifteen seconds left in the quarter, Eph Matthew Seligson slam-dunked the ball and drew a penalty to give Williams a man-up opportunity but the Ephs couldn't capitalize it into a goal. Williams was leading 8 – 5 going into halftime. After a stalemate from great defense, Williams netted a score at 13:06 from a goal by Jared Strauss after he ripped a shot into the top right corner of the net. Amherst answered back twenty seconds later with a goal from Evan Wolf assisted by Jon Coffey. The Ephs soon countered with a goal by Brendan Hoffman unassisted to give Williams a 10 – 6 lead. At 10:11, Williams defenseman Chris Burdick ripped a shot on the run to give the Ephs another goal tacked onto their lead. Amherst answered back with a goal from Colin Minicus and drew a penalty to give the Mammoths a man-up opportunity. At 7:33, Amherst netted a second-straight score by Colin Minicus to bring the Mammoths three goals behind Williams. One minute later, Eph Cory Lund shot a worm-burner of a goal to give the Ephs back their four-score cushion. Williams was up 12 – 8 going into the final quarter of play. At 10:13, Amherst netted the first score of the fourth quarter by Colin Minicus to bring their deficit to three scores. A minute later, the Mammoths scored a second-straight goal by Colin Minicus, assisted by Evan Wolf to bring the game to 12 – 10. At 7:47, Amherst netted another goal by Colin Minicus to bring the goal to a one-score game, but it was soon countered ten seconds later by an Eph goal scored by Alex Kitt to bring the score to 13 – 11. Great defense was displayed by both teams that didn't allow a score for the remainder of the game. Williams defeated Amherst 13 – 11. The Ephs used one goalie this game. Freshman Harry Gahagan had 10 saves. The Mammoths used one goalie this game as well. Chad Simons had 14 saves. The Mammoths were led by Colin Minicus with a whopping six goals. He was followed by Evan Wolff with one score and two assists along with Jimmy McAfee with one goal and one assist. The Ephs were led by with Calvin Collins, Cory Lund and Brendan Hoffman who all had two goals and one assist. They were followed by Matthew Seligson and Kevin Stump with two goals each. Other Williams scorers were Jared Strauss, Alex Kitt and Chris Burdick. Eph head coach George McCormack stated, "Today was a great team victory for us. Our 6-on-6 defense and offense played well the whole game and it showed in the end result." The Ephs return to action this Tuesday, April 9th away when they play Hamilton College, taking on the Continentals in a NESCAC match-up at 6pm. Amherst College will next play against Connecticut College home in a NESCAC match-up on April 9th, taking on the Camels at 6pm.
