On a record shattering day, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team emerged with their first win of the season on the road at Anderson University by a final score of 27-6. In just their third year of competition, the Berg set new individual single game marks in five categories including most ground balls, most faceoffs won, most assists, and most points. Furthermore, Patrick McCarthy set a new standard for most goals in a single game with nine. On the team records page, the Student Princes knocked off three records for single game marks including most goals (27), most assists (17), and most ground balls (58). "In the cold, our guys came out fast looking to win possession and take advantage of our opportunities," said head coach Bill Schmoldt. "I'm proud of our guys for their efforts today." McCarthy's nine goals paced all scorers, while Brock Hodson and Alex Bruder each tallied five goals. Liam Weaver scored four goals, and Hunter Edwards also reached multiple goals with two. Additionally, David Weaver scored his first career goal for the Berg. Freshman Jaydon Septer was 24-of-34 in the faceoff circle and in the process, scooped up 20 ground balls. Both marks were new single game records the the program. En route to a new program-high in team assists, Liam Weaver set a new individual-high with seven helpers. With his four goals and seven assists, Weaver also set the single-game mark for most points with 11. The cold temperatures failed to cool the Berg's offense on the day. As a team, the Student Princes fired off 73 shots including 47 on goal. A 10-goal eruption in the first period all but sealed the Student Princes' (1-2) first win of the season. Anderson (0-2) did manage a first period tally, but stayed far behind Heidelberg's dominant offense all afternoon. McCarthy completed his first natural hat trick in the first period, while Liam Weaver also tallied his hat trick in the first 15 minutes. David Weaver also joined the action by netting his first goal with the Berg on a feed from Alex Bruder. At the start of the second period, Bruder completed his hat trick with the Berg's first strike of the stanza. Also, McCarthy added two more, Hodson added two, and Liam Weaver scored before halftime. Out of the break, Hodson netted three, Hunter Edwards netted both of his goals on the day, and Barry Middleton found the back of the net as well during the third period. McCarthy completed his "double-hatty" with his sixth goal of the game early in the fourth period. The junior wasn't done as he added three more goals before the final whistle netting a rare triple-hat trick. Amongst McCarthy's four-goal period, Bruder scored his fifth of the game as well. After McCarthy had scored, Jaydon Septer scooped up the faceoff win and stormed down the field and fed the ball to Bruder who dispatched the goal, just 10 seconds after the restart. The Student Princes led wire-to-wire and sealed the win by a final tally of 27-6. Heidelberg was nearly perfect in their clear attempts going 13-for-14 in that category. For Anderson, Johathan Orloff paced the team with three goals, while Jacob Spratley netted two goals and dished out two assists. Tristan Wilbrandt collected a hat-trick of assists with three helpers. The Student Princes will remain on the road on Saturday at Mt. St. Joseph for a 1 p.m. face off time
