The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team (6-6, 2-3 NEC) benefitted six scorers including four members of its senior class in a 12-10 Northeast Conference win over Wagner (4-8, 0-4 NEC), Saturday afternoon at Campus Field for Senior Day. How it happened… SHU nearly blanked the visiting Seahawks through the first quarter scoring four times in a nearly 13-minute span. However, Wagner's John Norton put one past SHU keeper Brooks Dutton with 52 seconds pictured on the clock for the 4-1 line at the end of the onset. SHU continued to heckle the Seahawks' defense erupting for another 4-0 spurt capped by Jake Giaquinto at 7:57 of the second quarter. Wagner responded tacking on a trio of tallies in about three minutes to leave all but four left of its deficit, 8-4. Both teams traded one goal to round out the halftime score, 9-5. Logan Liljeberg credited a pair of goals to get the second half rolling, 11-5, but would also mark the last time the hosts scored in the quarter. Wagner deposited two more goals inside the quarter and one to open scoring in the fourth-quarter all a part of a 3-0 run that brought the Seahawks within three, 11-8. Kevin Cop blitzed a shot on the help from Saggese at 10:04 to help fizzle some of Wagner's momentum, though the foe managed to get in two more tallies before the final horn sounded. The numbers… Max Tuttle registered a game-high four goals and dished a pair of helpers. He also picked up three groundballs while committing just one turnover. Joe Saggese distributed a career-high five assists while adding two goals and a groundball. Julian Garritano and Liljeberg also earned two goals each. Mike Calvagna won all but six faceoffs (11-17) and recorded five groundballs. Dutton concluded with seven saves in the win. Senior Day… Prior to the opening faceoff, head coach Jon Basti and the men's lacrosse program took time to honor its 13 seniors- Garritano, Calvagna, Kevin Cop, Matt Posch, Joseph Choiniere, Matt Caracappa, Nick Albanese, Graham Welter, TJ Fitzell, Joe Parnell, Reed Avveduti, Saggese and Mathew Vezza. Up next… The Pioneers pause NEC play when they travel to Cleveland State Saturday, April 21. Action begins at noon
