Senior attackman Andrew Streilein poured in three goals, in addition to assisting on another, and the Wagner men's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters to pull away for an 11-5 victory over Manhattan in the 2018 season opener on Saturday at Hameline Field. In jumping out to a 1-0 mark on the 2018 campaign, Wagner avenged a 14-13 triple-overtime loss at Manhattan in last season's season opener as the Jaspers fall to 0-2. Four different Seahawks, senior attackman John Norton, senior midfielder Aaron Denesevich, Streilein and sophomore attackman Nic Ancona, found the net early as the Seahawks jumped out to a 4-2 lead after one quarter Wagner closed the half with a pair of unassisted tallies, beginning with a Pawela score and followed by a Streliein blast with 1:49 to go before intermission as the Seahawks took a 6-3 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Green & White then put the game away by opening the second half on a 4-0 splurge in opening a commanding 10-3 lead and never looked back. The four unanswered Seahawks goals came from senior midfielder Joe Lomeli (12:27), Ancona (11:41), Pawela (10:31) and Norton (9:16).
