Rarely missing in the fourth quarter, Babson College scored seven times in the final 15 minutes to pull away from the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team in a 16-8 decision Thursday afternoon at Nova Southeastern University. The Golden Knights lost for the third time in the past four games, but still maintain a winning record at 4-3 overall. Babson improved to 4-4, including three wins in five tries against Liberty League teams. Clarkson will host crosstown rival SUNY Potsdam next Tuesday. With the margin set at just two goals through the first 45 minutes of the game, Babson scored three unanswered goals to start the fourth and ended the game with four goals in the last six minutes to end any hope of a Clarkson comeback. The first half began with Clarkson up 4-2 through the first three minutes of the second quarter thanks to two straight goals from Evan Burgett. Babson scored three straight, including one in the final minute, to head into halftime with a 5-4 advantage. Clarkson held leads in all other categories at the break, including shots (21-12), shots on goal (10-7), groundballs (13-12), faceoffs (6-4) while committing nine turnovers to Babson's 11. The Beavers opened the second half with three goals in the first five minutes, but Conor Bartlett scored at 6:19 and then assisted on a Peter Herrick goal at 2:49 to make it 8-6. Derek Beatty scored just 18 seconds after Herrick's goal to get Clarkson within one, but Babson picked up a goal a minute later to head in the fourth up 9-7. Clarkson finished the game with a 40-32 edge in shots (24-22 shots on goal). Conor Bartlett scored three points with two goals and an assist while Evan Burgett (2-0-2) and Anthony DiGiovanni (1-1-2) each had multi-point days. Derek Beatty and Liam St. Croix each had four groundballs and Thomas Stanton caused three turnovers. Riley Holzman went 16-for-26 on faceoffs, scooping up seven groundballs. Kevin Dyckman made six saves in the Clarkson crease. For Babson, Christopher Aranalde made 16 saves on 24 shots on goal to lift the Beavers' defensive spirits. Niall Dillon led the team's offense with seven points, scoring six goals on six shots and adding a single assist. Thomas Jung also contributed four points with three goals and an assist.
