—Senior Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) led all players with four goals and first-year Jack Gregory (Medham, N.J.) won 11-of-15 face-offs to help Babson College defeat visiting Wheaton College, 11-4, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at MacDowell Field. Babson, which has won three straight and six of its last seven games overall, improves to 8-5 on the year and 4-0 in league play. Wheaton has dropped three straight games and is now 6-6 overall and 0-4 in the NEWMAC. Dillon also dished out two assists and finished with six points on the night, junior Owen Allen (Franklin, Mass.) contributed three goals and one assist, and senior Brendan Duffy (Duxbury, Mass.) added a pair of helpers for the Beavers. Graduate student Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Jack Tague (Fairfield, Conn.) both scooped up five ground balls and combined to record five caused turnovers, while junior Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made 10 saves in the win. Senior CJ Leighton (Falmouth, Maine) scored twice and classmate Matt Morgan (York, Maine) contributed a goal, four ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Lyons. Sophomore Troy Silney (Bradford, Mass.) won 8-of-17 face-offs and junior Chandler Miller (West Linn, Ore.) turned away 15 shots in defeat. Wheaton won all four first-quarter face-offs and controlled the pace throughout the first 15 minutes, but fell behind 2-1 on Dillon's goal at the 6:49 mark of the opening period. Gregory won 3-of-4 second-quarter face-offs and the Green and White took advantage by scoring the only three goals of the stanza. Dillon notched his second of the night nearly six minutes into the frame, sophomore Alex Lesher (Scottsdale, Ariz.) converted a feed from junior Thomas Jung (Vienna, Va.) at 7:43, and Allen got on the board with a man-up tally 42 seconds later to give Babson a 5-1 lead at the half. Aranalde stopped five shots and Miller came up with four saves in the third quarter to keep the margin at four before the Beavers created separation by scoring three times over the first nine minutes of the fourth. Allen and Leighton traded goals over the first 3:14 of the stanza, but sophomore Will Messner (South Kingstown, R.I.) scored in transition and Allen buried a feed from Duffy just 42 seconds apart to extend the Babson lead to 9-3 with 6:16 remaining. Dillon completed his hat trick off another pass from Duffy with 3:04 left and then netted his final goal of the night 31 seconds later following a face-off violation. The Beavers finished with a 40-29 edge in ground balls and forced the Lyons into 25 turnovers on the night. Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Clark in its home finale at 3 p.m., while Wheaton travels to Emerson at 5 p.m. GAME NOTES • The Beavers are 26-9 all-time against Wheaton and have won 11 of the last 12 meetings between the teams. • Babson has outscored its first four conference opponents 57-16 while allowing just six first-half goals. • With a fourth-quarter goal on Wednesday, Mishkind matched last year's career high with 45 points, and is now ranked fourth in program history in goals (124) and ninth in points (147). • Over the last three games, the Beavers are recording an average of 13.67 caused turnovers.
