Sophomore Maria Auth (Street, Md.) tied her career-high with five points and four goals to help lead No. 17 Penn State past Albany, 17-7, in non-conference action this afternoon from Casey Stadium. Penn State (4-3) opened the scoring as junior Madison Carter (Davidsonville, Md.) extended her goal streak to 10 games with her 24th of the year off a great feed from senior Shelby Wells (Timonium, Md.) at the 28:48 mark. However, Albany (0-6) responded on the ensuing possession as Emma Powlin fired home the equalizer at the 28:00 mark for the 1-1 score. Following a six-minute period without a goal, sophomore Kristin Roberto (Miller Place, N.Y.) connected on a free-position score at the 21:17 mark to ignite a 6-0 Penn State run as six different players registered goals before Madison Conway ended the spurt for the Great Danes with her tally at the 12:23 mark. Wells, senior’s Maggie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) and Katie O’Donnell (West Chester, Pa.), freshman Sophia Triandafils (Wading River, N.Y.) and junior Delaney Muldoon (Silver Spring, Md.) added the goals for Penn State who held the 7-2 lead. O’Donnell then ripped her second of the game at the 11:14 mark as the Nittany Lions went into the break on a 6-1 scoring run after Triandafils hit running time with her second of the game with just 36 seconds remaining in the first half for the 13-3 score. Auth opened the second half collecting a natural hat-trick in just a three-minute stretch of running time and freshman Quinn Nicolai (Moorestown, N.J.) added her second of the game at the 17:23 mark for seven-straight Penn State goals and the 17-3 advantage. Albany responded scoring the final four goals of the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Nittany Lions collected the 17-7 win to snap a two-game losing skid. Freshman Lucy Lowe (Cockeysville, Md.) secured the victory after making three saves over the opening 30 minutes to improve to 2-3 on the year. Sophomore Madison Cunningham (Davie, Fla.) stopped one shot in the second-half and didn’t factor in the decision. Albany net-minder Erin Leghart falls to 0-6 with the loss after collecting seven saves. Penn State returns to action on Wednesday when they host Drexel in a 4 p.m. affair airing live on the Big Ten Network. NOTES Junior Kelly Daggett (Bainbridge, Pa.) was excellent on the defensive side of the ball causing a game-high four turnovers and collecting a team-high four groundballs. Both marks tie her career-high. As a team Penn State had a season-high 10 assists on 17 goals including seven on the first 10 of the game. Wells and sophomore Shannon Moore (West Chester, Pa.) each collected a pair of helpers on the afternoon. Penn State held the commanding 33-15 edge in shots including the 25-11 mark on target as the team combined for just 15 shots in the second half after the Nittany Lions alone fired off 24 in the first half. PSU controlled the draw winning the battle 17-8 while Albany held the 26-22 edge in groundballs. Carter and Auth each extended their goal streaks to 10 games while O’Donnell has now scored multiple goals in 15 consecutive games and at least one goal in 29 straight. With a pair of goals on the afternoon Carter moves past Michele DeJuiis ‘97 and into tenth on the all-time goals list at Penn State with 143 for her career in 49 games played.
