Sophomore Logan Wisnauskas led the Terps with four goals and goalkeeper Danny Dolan made 11 saves in his first career start to lead the No. 3 Maryland men's lacrosse team to an 11-6 victory over Bucknell Saturday at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. Wisnauskas' four goals in today's game marks the most goals in a season-opener since Dylan Maltz also scored four in the 2017 season-opener against Navy. The Terps have won 26 straight season-openers dating back to 1994, and improved to 90-3-1 all-time in season-openers. Maryland is now 8-1 all-time against the Bison. Freshmen Brett Makar and Kyle Long, along with sophomores Alex Smith and Michael Chiaramonte made their Terrapin debuts on a chilly day in College Park. Bucknell's Reed Malas opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, followed by three unanswered Maryland goals in a span of 4 minutes and 42 seconds. Bucknell scored with a minute left in the first quarter to cap off the first 15 minutes of the season with the Terps up 3-2. The Terps' stifling defense held the Bison to only two goals in the next 36 minutes, while the Terps tallied six goals in the span, three coming from Wisnauskas. Bucknell applied pressure with nine minutes left in the game, scoring two goals within 30 seconds to make it 9-6. But, Jared Bernhardt scored his second of the afternoon shortly after and Anthony DeMaio sealed the deal for Maryland by scoring his second with just under five minutes left. Dolan stood tall in the last five minutes facing three shots and holding Bucknell scoreless to secure his first career victory in the cage at Maryland. Bernhardt led the team in shots (7) and ground balls (4) in his first game donning the No. 1 jersey, while Justin Shockey was exceptional from the faceoff X, going 8-11 after taking over faceoff duties in the second half. The Terps return to the field next week, Feb. 9 at noon to face the Richmond Spiders at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on BTN Plus.
