ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's lacrosse team lost to SUNY Oneonta, 13-3, in Bard's home opener on Wednesday evening. The first quarter was defensively tight, with the guests maintaining a 1-0 lead for a good eight minutes or so. Stephen Panno (Holtsville, NY) scored his second goal of the game with 5:24 left in the opening quarter, but Jeremy Awe cut the deficit in half with a brilliant individual effort at the 2:23 mark. Panno scored again less than a minute later, and it was 3-1 after one quarter. A man-up goal early in the second quarter made it 4-1 for Oneonta, and it stayed that way for eight minutes. But the Red Dragons scored with 2:53 left, 56 seconds left, and three seconds left to take a 7-1 lead into halftime. Bard scored in the first minute of the third quarter, on an unassisted goal by Jack Kaplan, but Oneonta responded with five consecutive goals to take a 12-2 lead through three quarters. Peter Sojka scored Bard's last goal off an assist from Awe. Panno finished with six goals and an assist, and Shane Carroll (Poughkeepsie, NY) collected nine ground balls. Zachary Flynn (Stony Brook, NY) made five saves. Will Baffuto led Bard with three ground balls, and Lyle Healey made 16 saves for Bard, 0-2. Up next for the Raptors is a trip to North Country.
