Senior Frankie Kamely and junior Hannah Powers each scored four goals to lead the 13th-ranked Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team to a 15-3 win over Army West Point in the Patriot League opener for both teams Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex. In addition to Kamely and Powers' four goals, senior Hannah Savage distributed a game-high three assists. Sophomore Emily Cooper tacked on her second collegiate hat trick, while freshman Elli Kluegel added two goals for the Greyhounds (6-2 overall, 1-0 Patriot League). Classmate Livy Rosenzweig accounted for one goal and two assists, and junior Taylor VanThof and freshman Bridget Ballard rounded out the scoring with one goal and one assist, respectively. For Army West Point (5-3, 0-1), Jackie Brattan scored two goals. VanThof won the first three draw controls of the game and Powers used them to net an early hat trick, scoring her third goal of the game just three minutes and 22 seconds into play. Kamely, Vanthof and Kluegel added to Loyola's lead before Kamely's second goal of the run, assisted by Rosenzweig, gave the Greyhounds a 7-0 advantage at the 18:03 mark. Army snapped Loyola's seven-goal streak with its lone goal of the half at 15:56, before goals from Cooper, two from Kamely, and a fourth from Powers gave the Greyhounds an 11-1 halftime advantage. Kluegel scored first in the second half, followed by back-to-back goals from the Black Knights, cutting Loyola's lead to nine, at 12-3. A pair of goals from Cooper gave the sophomore attacker her second collegiate hat trick at the 10:55 mark, while Rosenzweig's goal at 7:58 brought the final score to 15-3. Defensively, Loyola held the Black Knights to five first half shots, while the Greyhounds also broke six of Army West Point's 16 clear attempts. Junior Lindsey Ehrhardt, Powers and freshman Sam Fielder had three ground balls each, while eight Greyhounds contributed a caused turnover. Loyola will return to action on Wednesday when it travels to Washington, D.C., for a Loyola-Georgetown lacrosse doubleheader. The men's teams will faceoff at 3 p.m., followed by the women's teams at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Cooper Field.
