ROSEMONT, Pa. - In a wild back-and-forth battle, the Bard College men's lacrosse team rallied to take the lead, then held off Rosemont, 16-15, on Wednesday. A man-down goal by Corey Rich with 92 seconds left in the first quarter gave Bard a 3-1 advantage, but the Ravens scored four straight goals - one at the end of the first quarter and three to start the second quarter - to take a 5-3 lead. The game was tied at 5-5 and 6-6, but the hosts scored the final two goals of the second quarter to take an 8-6 lead into halftime. The game changed for good in the third quarter. The teams traded goals, so it was 9-7 when Bard suddenly took charge. Peter Sojka scored an unassisted goal to make it 9-8, then Corey Rich scored back-to-back man-up goals to give the Raptors the lead, 10-9. Jack Kaplan, Sojka and Rich scored unassisted goals before the third quarter ended, Rosemont got one back, so it was 13-10 entering the fourth quarter. Bard had outscored Rosemont 7-2 in the third quarter. Bard took its biggest lead, 14-10, when Kaplan scored again in the first minute of the fourth quarter. But the Ravens weren't done, and the game ended up coming down to a few key possessions. It was 14-11 when Rosemont scored a pair of goals 50 seconds apart to trim the deficit to 14-13 with 8:07 remaining in the game. Bard won the faceoff and Rosemont was called for a tripping penalty. Sojka cashed in with a man-up goal, making it 15-13 with 6:33 left. But Rosemont cut the lead back to one, 15-14, with 5:10 on the clock. The Ravens won the ensuing faceoff, but Bard goalie Lyle Healey made a huge save, Bard cleared, and Sojka scored again, pushing the lead back to 16-14 with just under four minutes left. Rosemont goalie Mark Porter (Winter Mill, PA) made two saves as Bard had a man-up opportunity, and Brandon Krausse (Aston, PA) scored his sixth goal of the game to make it 16-15 with 1:21 remaining. Rosemont called a time out. The Ravens won the ensuing faceoff, but Will Baffuto caused a turnover, Healey scooped up the ground ball, Bard cleared and called time out with 36 seconds left. Rosemont drew a penalty with 31 seconds left and never crossed midfield again. Sojka and Rich finished with six goals apiece, Sojka added two assists and Rich one. Kaplan scored twice, and the Raptors got single goals from Logan Leppo and Sid Subramani. Emanuel Grenier-Benoit led Bard with eight ground balls, while Kaplan, Baffuto and Leppo collected six ground balls apiece. Baffuto caused four turnovers and Leppo caused three. Healey made 13 saves. Only Liberty League games remain on the 2019 schedule for the Raptors, who are 3-2. They next play at No. 20 St. Lawrence on Saturday in their Liberty League opener.
