Nicole Beatson tallied seven points Saturday evening as the Winthrop lacrosse team battled the 8th-ranked Navy Midshipmen in a 22-11 loss. HOW IT HAPPENED Winthrop (1-3) played a very strong first half offensively. After giving up a goal to the Mids only 18 seconds into the contest, the Eagles scored the next two goals. Navy (4-1) responded by scoring four unanswered to go up 5-2 just over 10 minutes into the game. Katherine Judge put an end to the Navy run but the Mids again grabbed three in a row, increasing their lead to 8-3. Nicole Beatson then scored two in a row, getting Winthrop back within three. Navy then scored four of the last six goals of the half, including one with nine seconds left to take a 12-7 lead into the break. Navy opened the second half scoring five unanswered goals in the first 6:06, to open a 17-7 lead. The Eagles continued to battle, scoring the next two goals. Scoring slowed over the final 10 minutes of the contest as each team recorded two goals. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE Beaton's team-leading seven points came on four goals and three assists. Katherine Judge added three goals and led the team with seven draw controls and four ground balls. Alaina Girani finished the night with nine saves. Winthrop had an efficient offensive night, scoring their 11 goals on 20 total shots with 13 going on goal. The Eagles finished with 13 draw controls and four caused turnovers.
