STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team proved that they were the team to beat in the America East on Friday night, downing rival UAlbany by a score of 17-9 at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves are now the lone unbeaten team left in the conference as the squad handed the Great Danes their first league loss of the season. The decision also marks the 30th-straight conference victory for Stony Brook. QUOTING HEAD COACH Joe Spallina "It's a great win for our team. I think that coming into our conference play, there was this perception out there that we were down. There was a lot of noise coming from the other locker room leading up to this game. For us, our kids take pride in defending the America East and I thought our kids came out tonight and we had a great couple days of prep and we're starting to play some really good and solid lacrosse." HIGHLIGHTS Ally Kennedy (North Babylon, N.Y.) stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high seven goals, three assists, 11 draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Her draw control and assist tallies also also tie her career marks. Kennedy took 14 total shots on the evening with 10 falling on target and notched three of her scores from the free position. Siobhan Rafferty (Long Beach, N.Y.) added in four goals for the Seawolves, including three within a span of three and a half minutes in the second half. Nicole Barretta (Exton, Pa.) notched a hat trick in the first half and added in an assist for four points. Goals also came courtesy of Rayna Sabella (Mount Sinai, N.Y.), Bridget Considine (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Sabrina Tabasso (Lower Merion, Pa.). Goalkeeper Anna Tesoriero (Huntington, N.Y.) made eight saves on the evening, including six in the first half. Stony Brook held a 10-7 lead at the half and outscored the Great Danes 7-2 in the second to run away with the victory. NOTES Kennedy has scored in all 13 games this season and Rafferty has notched at least one point in each contest. Kennedy is now fifth in program history in single-season draw controls (71), seventh in career goals (135) and ninth in career points (177). Stony Brook had the overwhelming statistical advantage in shots (37-21) and draw controls (22-6). UAlbany had the edge in ground balls, 12-9. Stony Brook is 18-7 all-time against the Great Danes, winning its last 13 matchups. NEXT UP Stony Brook is back home at LaValle Stadium this Sunday at noon, hosting No. 14 USC for the team's Pink Game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink.
