The Drexel women' lacrosse team scored the first five goals of the game and never trailed on its way to a convincing 17-7 win against Villanova on Sunday afternoon at Vidas Field. The Dragons have now won their first five games of the season and remained unbeaten. OVERVIEW * Dragons took control of the game from the outset and never looked back against the Wildcats (1-3). Colleen Grady scored two goals in the first 1:37 to put the Dragons ahead. Her second goal was the 100th of her career, making her just the 13th player to reach that milestone at Drexel. * Less than a minute after Grady's second, Karson Harris had a run of her own. She scored back-to-back goals in a span of 65 seconds to extend the lead to 4-0. Lucy Schneidereith made it 5-0 seven minutes into the game and Villanova would not be able to get it closer than a four-goal game the rest of the afternoon. * Drexel's offense was in attack mode the entire first half and the Dragons ended the first period with 14 goals. It was 14-4 at intermission as Grady had all eight of her points in the opening 30 minutes. She scored four times and handed out four assists. * Lucy Schneidereith also had a huge first half with five goals. In fact, Schneidereith, Grady and Harris had 13 of the team's 14 first-half goals. Cara Moreau had the other Dragons' goal. * Each team scored three times in a much less explosive offensive half. Jamie Schneidereith, Corrine Bednarik and Allison Drake had the Drexel goals. HIGHLIGHTS *Grady set a personal-high with eight points in the game. * With her six points today, Harris moved into sole possession of sixth place on Drexel's career scoring list with 172. * Bednarik led the team with five draw controls. * Goalie Zoe Bennett had another solid game in goal with 11 saves. She allowed only six goals in just under 52 minutes. Caroline Fritsch made one save and allowed one goal in eight minutes. BY THE NUMBERS * Drexel outshot the Wildcats, 32-26, and forced 12 turnovers. * The Dragons had just one failed clear in 18 attempts. * Villanova had a 15-10 edge in draw controls, but the Dragons won the battle of the ground balls by a 15-8 margin. * The Drexel defense allowed a season-low seven goals. The last time Drexel gave up less than seven goals came during the 2019 season against Central Connecticut. NEXT UP Drexel will play its fourth contest of the season against a City Six school on Saturday when it hosts La Salle. The Dragons have already recorded wins against Saint Joseph's, Temple and Villanova.
