UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team tallied six straight goals in the second half to secure a 15-7 win over American on Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium. Madison Ostrick and Mia Castagnero each tallied four goals in the win. The four scores were a career high for Ostrick, while Castagnero has accomplished the feat twice this season. Marissa Brown led the Spiders with three goals and two assists for five points. Ostrick started the scoring for the Spiders off the initial draw, before American evened the score just over two minutes later. Lauren Kingsbury tallied her first career goal and Regan Williams scores her first of two on the day to make it 3-1, but the Eagles' Kendall Goldblum scored the first two of her five goals on the day to even things up. Brown scored twice and Castagnero and fellow senior Aly Fries each found the back of the net once to round out the first-half scoring for the Spiders. Goldblum added two more goals of her own to make it a 7-5 Richmond advantage at the break. Castagnero opened the second half scoring with her second of the day, but Goldblum managed to answer again. It was three-straight tallies from Ostrick, however, that put the game out of reach and sparked the six-goal outburst from the Spiders over the next 12 minutes. Castagnero, Brown and Fries also scored in the run. American managed one more goal with two minutes to play, but Castagnero scored her fourth less than a minute later for the 15-7 Spider win. Megan Gianforte was a force in goal, logging 10 saves in 60 minutes played and causing a game-high three turnovers to go along with her game-high five ground balls. Julie Ball won six draw controls to lead the Spiders, while Ostrick collected four of her own. The Spiders return to action on Saturday, March 2, when they travel to face in-state foe Liberty. Game time in Lynchburg is set for 1 p.m.
