The William & Mary lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 16-5 setback at ninth-ranked Virginia on Wednesday evening. Although W&M (2-2) and UVA (4-0) were even with five goals apiece during the final 27:40, the Tribe was unable to overcome an 11-goal deficit. The loss was W&M's second against a top-10 opponent this season, while it remains unbeaten in its other contests. Tribe Standouts Abby Corkum led the Tribe with two goals, while Meredith Hughes posted a goal and a game-high five draw controls. Annelise Kotz added a goal and three draw controls, while Hannah Ryan provided three draw controls and an assist. Goalie Elsa Rall recorded a career-high 11 saves, 10 of which came in the first half. Inside the Numbers W&M owned a 12-11 edge in draw controls, but UVA held advantages in shots (40-11) and ground balls (26-8). Additionally, the Cavaliers committed 10 fewer turnovers (9-19). The Opposition Kasey Behr (3g, 1a) and Maggie Jackson (3g, 1a) led Virginia with four points apiece, while Avery Shoemaker also recorded a hat trick with three goals. Notes The loss snapped W&M's two-game winning streak after earning wins against Longwood and Davidson last week … W&M remains unbeaten at home but falls to 0-2 on the road … Both of the Tribe's losses this season have come against top-10 teams (No. 1 Maryland, No. 9 Virginia) … The contest was the first of three consecutive road games for W&M, as its upcoming contests include trips to Vanderbilt (March 5) and George Mason (March 10) … Corkum has posted multi-goal efforts in two of the last three games.
