ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 14 Navy women's lacrosse team (12-3, 6-1 Patriot League) used a total team effort on Wednesday night to post a 20-10 victory over American (6-9, 1-6 Patriot League). Thirty-two different Midshipmen played in the game, including 13 that registered points on the night. "It is a wonderful opportunity for when you are able to use a lot of players in a game," head coach Cindy Timchal said after the game. "We wanted to keep up the level of intensity, even when other players got into the game. Our tenacity and crispness might not have been there the whole time, but it was still an opportunity for players who committed to the Navy women's lacrosse program to get on the field and get their confidence going." "Credit to American," Timchal added. "They never gave up. They were able to scrap and battle to score goals, especially in the second half. It is good for our conference to have teams that battle until the very end." Thirteen players registered points in the game, including 12 different players found the back of the net. Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and Caitlin Blanche (Crofton, Md.) led the team with three goals each, while Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.), Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.), Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.), and Moriah Snyder (Bel Air, Md.) chipped in two goals apiece. Nicole Victory (Issaquah, Wash.), Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.), and Ellie Lecker (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) led the team with two assists each. Navy won the draw control battle, securing 19 draws compared to 12 by American. Roelofs led the way with eight draws on the night, while Harris added four. Roelofs now has 91 draws on the season and is nine DCs shy of registering the Mids' eighth 100-plus draw control effort in a single season. On the night, Navy picked up 19 ground balls with 13 different players tallying at least one GB in the game. Anne Richter (Hinsdale, Ill.) led the team with three ground balls. Five different goalies saw time between the pipes on the night for the Midshipmen. Senior Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the start, working the first half. She picked up her 11th victory of the season surrendering three goals with three saves to her credit in 30 minutes of action. Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) started the second half. She worked just over 10 minutes with a team-high five saves with one goal allowed. Annie Maloney (Ellicott City, Md.) worked just over 11 minutes with two goals allowed and a save. Maddy Bell (Winter Park, Fla.) and Lindsey Ellison (Arlington, Va.) combined for the final 8:30. Bell allowed three goals with two saves, while Ellison gave up one goal. The Navy defense caused 10 of American's 16 turnovers on the night. Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) led the team with three caused turnovers, while Lecker added a pair. Navy took control of the game early, jumping out to an 10-0 lead in the first 15 minutes of the game, causing the Mids to pull most of their starters. The Midshipmen had six different players score in the first 15 minutes of the game. O'Sullivan had all three of her goals in the first 15 minutes of action, while Larkin and Harris each notched two goals in the opening run. The Midshipmen extended its advantage to 11-0 before the Eagles were able to find the back of the net. American rattled off three consecutive goals to trim the margin to 11-3, but Navy closed out the half with four goals to take a 15-3 advantage into halftime. In the second half, American outscored Navy, 7-5, but the Midshipmen were able to come away with the 10-goal victory. Following an American goal, Navy rattled off back-to-back goals to go ahead 17-4. The Eagles scored five consecutive goals to cut the margin to seven, 17-10, but Navy responded with the final three goals of the game to provide the final margin of victory, 20-10. Navy returns to action on Saturday, April 20, as the Midshipmen welcome Lafayette to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The final home game of the season is slated for 1:00 p.m. with Senior Day recognition taking place prior to opening draw. Live stats and live video will be available throughout the game.
