The 11th-ranked Amherst College men's lacrosse team erased a five-goal deficit and scored seven goals in the fourth quarter to secure a thrilling, 13-10 comeback victory over Trinity College in Wednesday evening's NESCAC contest at Jessee/Miller Field in Hartford, Conn. With the win, Amherst improves to 12-3 on the season, 8-2 in NESCAC action and has secured the third seed in the NESCAC Championship tournament. Trinity concludes its season with a 5-10 overall record, 1-9 in league play. In a first quarter that saw both teams fire 13 shots, Trinity claimed a 3-0 advantage as Andrew Collins opened the scoring at the 9:25 mark with an assist from Max Herman, before Ben Macshane and Ben Knaus added unassisted goals at the 4:38 and 3:36 marks to give the Bantams a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes. Trinity extended its cushion to 5-0 when Herman and Knaus found the back of the net early in the second stanza with John Caraviello providing the assist on Herman's marker. Brogan Mahon '19 put Amherst on the board with an unassisted score at the 8:38 mark, before Herman answered back for the hosts. A Jimmy McAfee '20 goal at the 4:07 mark aided by Evan Wolf '19 made 6-2, before Matt Gardiner (from Max DeLaMater) pushed the Trinity lead back to five with 2:12 to play. With just 29 ticks on the clock in the second period, Ian Kadish '18 made it 7-3 at intermission when scored on a dish from Wolf. The Mammoths continued to ride the momentum in the third quarter as Max Keeley '18 scored an unassisted goal, while McAfee and Jordan Sanford '19 added markers with assists from Wolf and Jack Wolff '18 respectively to pull Amherst to within one at 7-6 with 10:13 to play in the third quarter. Gardiner broke the run for the Bantams, scoring at the 7:29 mark as Trinity held an 8-6 edge heading into the fourth quarter. In the final frame, Amherst exploded for seven straight goals as Brett Inglesby '18 scored back-to-back unassisted goals in a span of 39 seconds, while Wolf and McAfee provided back-to-back unassisted strikes in just 11 seconds to give the visitors a sudden, 10-8 lead. Wolf added another tally on a feed from Colin Minicus '20 at the 4:40 mark, before Mahon and Wolff combined for a pair of scores in a 12-second span to give the Mammoths a 13-8 advantage with 2:38 on the clock. The Bantams pulled to within three on goals by Caraviello and Gus Ackley but could get no closer as the Mammoths held on for an impressive comeback win.
