PHILADELPHIA - After battling back to take a 9-8 lead, Temple lacrosse gave up four goals in the final seven minutes and ultimately lost 12-9 to visiting Boston University (4-3) on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls (3-5) had a lead in shots on goal, but the Terriers' goalkeeper came up with 17 total saves. Keys to the Game > Temple trailed 7-3 early in the second half before coming back with a 5-0 run to take its first lead at 8-7. > The Owls had one more lead at 9-8 with 10:31 remaining, but couldn't get another goal the rest of the way. > Temple finished with a 26-19 lead in shots on goal and a 40-30 lead in total shots. > The Owls also had a strong advantage on the draw with 16 draw controls to BU's seven. Individual Highlights > Juniors Meghan Hoffman, Olivia Thompson and Abby Overman all scored two goals apiece for the Owls. > On a free-position opportunity, junior defender Kara Nakrasius scored her first career goal to cap the Owls' 5-0 run. > Also scoring one goal each were senior Quinn Benintende and sophomore Jen Rodzewich, with Rodzewich adding an assist. > Sophomore Bridget Whitaker tallied two assists. > Senior Amber Lambeth collected a game-high seven draw controls while Nakrasius was right behind her with six. Game Summary > Boston University scored in two-goal spurts three times in the first half, broken up by just three Temple goals. The Terriers took a 6-3 lead into the break. > The first goal of the second half was also scored by BU for a 7-3 lead before the Owls got back in it. > Overman started the Temple run with 21:18 remaining, and scored again to get Temple within a goal just past the 20-minute mark. > The Nakrasius goal at 15:44 gave Temple an 8-7 lead, which held for nearly four minutes. > The Terriers tied the game at 12:05, and Thompson gave Temple its final lead a minute and a half later. > Kaitlin Belval, who finished with four goals for BU, scored two of the final four that put the Terriers in the lead for good. Quotable - Head Coach Bonnie Rosen > "We had a great Spring Break and got better in a lot of areas and that's why we saw the results we saw. UMBC was actually a really well-played game...today was a letdown in our performance. This is not where our game is...It's disappointing to not come away with this win. We gave ourselves a really good chance and had the lead with ample amount of time...we're just not finishing out the little things that allow us to take the game against a team that's just like us." > "We absolutely have to score more goals. We had plenty of opportunities to have more goals today. Between finishing our scoring opportunities and some of those unforced errors, we just need to continue to cut down on those. It's great if you can keep a team under 10 but the nature of the sport is we're going to come against teams that have a tremendous amount of firepower and it's great if we can keep them under 10, that gives us a chance, but we're going to need to score more goals." Up Next > The Owls will travel to #7 James Madison, the defending national champion, on Saturday, March 16 for a 1 p.m. game.
