DURHAM, N.H. – Mickenzie Larivee (Amherst, N.H) recorded a team-high three goals in the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team's 12-10 home loss Tuesday afternoon to Boston University in rainy, then snowy, conditions at Wildcat Stadium. Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.), Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) and Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) and each tallied two point apiece. Miller scored two goals while both Neyland and Blanding finished with a goal and an assist. UNH goalie Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) was credited with 12 saves, seven in the second half. Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) had five tallies in both caused turnovers and ground balls. Hernon's five caused turnovers was a career-high. BU overcame an early three goal deficit to edge UNH by two goals. Kailey Conry led Boston University's attack with one goal and five assists. Hannah Kenneally contributed three goals and one assist. Kennady Smith made six saves, all in the first half. UNH is now 8-5 on the season, while BU improves to 9-4. UP NEXT UNH returns to action April 13 at home against UMBC. Start time at Wildcat Stadium is 10 a.m. FIRST HALF UNH took the lead 51 seconds into the game with an unassisted goal from Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.). An unassisted goal from Kaitlin Belval tied the game, 1-1, at 24:18. The 'Cats came back with another unassisted goal, this time from Neyland, at 21:38 to take a 2-1 lead. Blanding converted a free-position shot to extend the Wildcats' lead to 3-1 at 19:04. A caused turnover by Hernon in the defensive zone resulted in Larivee's unassisted goal at 18:06 to create a three goal lead for the 'Cats. BU capitalized on a free-position shot to shrink the deficit to 4-2 at 12:10. The Wildcats were issued a yellow card and the Terriers took advantage of an extra attacker to come within one of the 'Cats at 11:34. A goal from Mathews, assisted by Kenneally, at 8:43 tied the game at 4. Nineteen seconds later, BU established its first lead of the game with a goal from Emily Vervlied – assisted by Conry – at 8:24. Kenneally netted her second of the game to extend the Terriers' lead to 6-4 at 7:34 . The Wildcats had a player-up advandtage when a yellow card is given to the Terriers at 6:58, but New Hampshire did not convert. Larivee tallied her second of the game, this time off a pass from Blanding, to put the Wildcats within one, 6-5, at 3:11. SECOND HALF Miller nets her first of the game, and UNH erases its two-goal deficit to tie the game, 6-6, at 27:49. BU takes the lead again, 7-6, at 20:27 with a goal from Bridget McCarthy. Conry tallies her fourth assist of the game on BU's seventh goal. UNH retaliates quickly to tie the game 7-7 on Larivee's third goal of the game 18:26. BU counters to take the lead, 8-7, with a free-position opportunity at 15:58. On the restart, McCarthy found Conry low on the right side for the goal. The Terriers extended their lead to 9-7 on a free-position tally from Maddie MacMaster 14:37. Sixty-seven seconds later, Boston University scored another goal from Makenzie Irvine to create a 10-7 lead. UNH countered quickly with a free-position goal from Miller at 12:44, tallying her second of the game to make the score 10-8 in favor of the Terriers. Twenty-two seconds later, Vervlied tallied her second of the game to create a three goal lead for the Terriers. Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her first of the game with an assist from Hernon to lift the Wildcats within two, 11-9, at 7:42. The Wildcats struck again with an unassisted goal from Gabby Masseur (Nashua, N.H.) at 5:56 to make the score 11-10. Kenneally netted a goal at 2:34 to once again create a two-goal lead for the Terriers. UNH called time out with 1:01 on the clock, but lost possession soon thereafter as the visitors held on for the win. UNH NOTEBOOK New Hampshire is 3-2 at home. Leonard extended her point streak to 12 games. Her assist streak ended at six games. Larivee's goal streak is at six games. This was Torres' fourth double-digit save effort of the season. Eight different Wildcats recorded a point. Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) was not one of those 'Cats, which ended her 12-game goal and point streaks. INSIDE THE NUMBERS Each team was able to convert a goal on its first shot of the game. BU had the edge in draw controls (19-5) and ground balls (20-17). The visitors won 11 of 12 second-half draws. Both teams scored two free-position goals. The Terriers recorded a 30-19 shot advantage that included 18-5 in the second half. BU committed more turnovers (24-19).
