A Colleen Grady goal with 2:22 to play in overtime led Drexel to a 13-12 win over the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon at Sweeney Field. HOW IT HAPPENED • After a quiet start to the game saw the two teams split a pair of goals over the opening 12 minutes of play, Saint Joseph's (1-2) got its attack going first, ripping off six of the next seven goals to open a 7-2 lead with 7:19 to play in the first half. Lauren Figura led the early onslaught with two goals while Stephanie Kelly added a pair of assists. • Drexel (2-0) would get two more in the frame, but Kelly would add a second and Alyssa Manley added one of her own to make it a 9-4 game at halftime. • Karson Harris netted consecutive goals for the Dragons in the first five minutes of the second half, but Emma O'Neill and Bridget Cerciello restored the five-goal margin for the Crimson and Gray with just under 17 minutes on the clock. Harris then keyed a quick 3-0 spurt with a pair of goals to bring the visitors back within a pair, but Sam McGee tallied with 9:25 to play to make it 12-9 in favor of the Hawks. • Harris and Lucy Schneidereith each netted their fifth of the game in the closing minutes, however, to bring Drexel all the way back and send the game to overtime tied at 12. • After a big save by Melissa Semkiw kept the Hawks in it through the first half of overtime, Grady tallied her third of the day shortly after the overtime break to give the Dragons the win. BEHIND THE BOX SCORE • Both goalkeepers reached double-digits in saves, as Zoe Bennett made 16 stops for the Dragons while Semkiw made 12 for the Hawks. • Harris and Grady led all scorers with six points; Harris had five goals and an assist, while Grady had three of each. • Figura, Kelly, and McGee all netted two goals for the Hawks, while Kelly added two assists and Figura and McGee tallied one each. • Julia Pash scored a goal to go with six draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers, while Emma O'Neill added four draws and a goal of her own. Sarah Platt notched a game-high four caused turnovers as well. UP NEXT The Hawks will play their first road game of the season on Saturday when they visit Lehigh. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
