Four UC Davis players finished with hat tricks on the day, part of a group of 10 overall who found the back of the net on Saturday afternoon, leading the Aggies to a 20-9 victory over Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival and host Fresno State in a non-conference match-up at Bulldog Stadium. The win marked the second over the Bulldogs this season following a 20-10 victory at UC Davis Health Stadium back on Feb. 14 in the season opener, and the third time this year that UC Davis (5-2 overall) has reached 20 goals in a match — the most since the 2011 squad reached the 20-goal plateau five times. The nine goals allowed on Friday also marked the fourth time in seven matches that the Aggies have limited an opponent to single digits, the first time since 2018 that has happened. Seniors Maddie Myers, Sorana Larson, and Anna Hofgard, along with junior Kendall Seifert, each finished with three goals on the day as the Aggies spread out the scoring. Natalie Wilson and Aude Claire Moats each bent the net twice — the latter netting the first two goals of her career — while Kate Graham, Kaley Stunz, Julie Byrne (the second of her career), and Lauren Hart (the first of her career), each finished with one apiece. Hofgard and Alex Agnew added a pair of assists as UC Davis out-shot Fresno State, 40-24 for the match, led by six attempts from Larson and five each by Myers, Wilson, and Hofgard. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Mathieson finished with eight first-half saves before giving way to sophomore Ashley Laing, who stopped three shots in the second half as UC Davis limited the Bulldogs to two goals after the break. In a tale of two halves, the Aggies put the game away early, scoring seven of the first eight goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and leading the Bulldogs by 10 at the break. The second half was a little more defensive-minded as the two teams combined for only five goals and 17 total shots with the clock running. UC Davis returns to action on the road in Tempe, Ariz., next week, taking on Arizona State on Sunday (March 21) at 1 p.m.
