The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team (0-8) scored three uninterrupted goals to roll out the second half, including its first all game, after falling behind seven to Vermont. Unfortunately, the spurt paled to the Catamounts (4-5) who managed to escape, 11-6, Thursday afternoon at Campus Field. How it happened… Vermont handled the Pioneers, 7-0, inside the first half as Bailey Saneman credited an early hat trick. Out of the break, the hosts found a rhythm, netting three uninterrupted goals in a four-minute span to bring them within four of the Catamounts. At 23:43, a tally from Elise Koehl cut into the Pioneers momentum pushing Vermont up, 8-3. Both teams traded a goal apiece before Averi Farhat scored a pair back-to-back capped at the 10:19 mark to bring the Pioneers within four, 9-6. However, that would conclude scoring for the hosts. Vermont managed to tack on two more before the final horn sounded. The numbers… Farhat earned a hat trick, her first of the season and first since scored three against LIU Brooklyn, April 14, 2017. Olivia Millard registered the first goal of her collegiate career while also picked up a ground ball. Cassie Cesario added a goal and a helper while also getting to four balls on the turf, winning a draw control and causing two Catamount miscues. Carrie Speicher's tally rounded out scoring on the Pioneers' behalf. Sydney Ericson and Amy Cadle both corralled three ground balls while Nicole Holder's three caused turnovers led SHU. Cadle and Paige Hammick split time in goal but Hammick's first-half performance gave her the loss. Up next… The Pioneers remain at home with Brown on the horizon.
