WEST POINT, N.Y. -No. 8 Navy scored seven unanswered goals to break a 4-4 tie and close out the first half as the visiting Midshipmen topped No. 9 Army, 18-10, in front of a Michie Stadium lacrosse record crowd of 7,114 at sun-splashed West Point on Saturday. <BR><BR> Navy (6-1/5-0 PL) extended its overall lead in the series to 50-26-3 in defeating the Black Knights for the seventh consecutive year. The Mids went on a 14-2 run from the end of the first half through to the fourth quarter, holding Army (4-2/1-1 PL) scoreless for more than 26 minutes during one stretch. <BR><BR> Jim Wagner potted three goals to pace Army, while John Walker, Brian Green and Jake Couch each scored twice. Matt Darak made 16 saves as Navy pelted the Black Knights' keeper with 55 shots. <BR><BR> Ian Dingman led Navy with three goals to go along with three assists. Jon Birsner also registered three and three, while Joe Bossi picked up a hat trick as well. Matt Russell made 13 saves. <BR><BR> Sophomore defenseman Matt Luyster won the Lt. Ray Enners Sabre given out to the Army player who grabs the most ground balls in the Navy game. Luyster led the Black Knights with six grounders. <BR><BR> Navy, undefeated in its inaugural season in the Patriot League, will capture the regular-season crown and host the postseason tournament with a win over Lehigh on April 16. <BR><BR> The Black Knights will try to rebound Tuesday evening when they travel to Lafayette for a Patriot League matchup with the Leopards at 7 p.m. It will be Army's first road contest season its season opener at Syracuse.
