The No. 21/RV women's lacrosse team got off to a hot start and never looked back in a 13-8 victory over Yale at Schoellkopf Field on Saturday afternoon. Both Tomasina Leska and senior captain Ida Farinholt ripped off a career-high four goals each to lead the team to its 11th-straight win over the Bulldogs. The Big Red began its tirade with a big first half, scoring the match's first six goals of the game en route to an 8-3 advantage heading into halftime. The team rushed out to a 2-0 lead as Farinholt notched a score 1:32 into the match and Leska added in another just 18 seconds later. Leska would go on to score twice more in opening run along with Joey Coffy and Isabel Zachara, who notched her first-career goal on her first-career start in highlight reel-worthy fashion. The sophomore received a feed from Farinholt from outside the eight meter, and as she was falling, Zachara sent in a shot from just outside the crease that beat the keeper. Yale (6-3, 2-1 Ivy) would break its drought with a free position goal from Izzy Nixon with 12:50 left in the half and the first period eventually came to a close with both teams netting a pair of goals each. Cornell (5-3, 2-1 Ivy) opened the second half in the same away they did the first, going on a run to establish its offense. Coffy, Farinholt and senior captain Taylor Reed each tallied a score before the Bulldogs responded with three unanswered of its own to cut its deficit to 11-6, but Farinholt fired back with two goals after that to practically seal the game for the Big Red. Yale would go on to score two more times in the final 3:36 of the match to finalize the 13-8 result. Goalkeeper Katie McGahan was once again solid in the crease, making eight saves in the win. The Bulldogs' keeper, Sydney Marks notched 12. Farinholt was Cornell's top draw controller on the day, recording six while Coffy and Cait Callahan had strong defensive outings with three caused turnovers and two ground balls each. Zachara also had a pair of ground ball pickups herself. The Cornell defense went to work once again, causing nine of Yale's 18 total turnovers. The Bulldogs were also previously averaging 17.63 draw controls per game, but only came away with 11, while also averaging 15.00 ground balls per contest but only earning seven on the outing. The Big Red also showcased productive ball movement down the field, going a perfect 20-20 on clears. The team is back at home at Schoellkopf Field next Saturday, hosting Rutgers for non-conference action. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
