CHAPEL HILL – Cole Herbert scored a career-high four goals, while North Carolina's defense held firm as the Tar Heels (3-1) took down Brown (1-1) 14-11 Wednesday afternoon. Jacob Kelly had a monster game scoring three goals, collecting a career-high five assists, and picked up six ground balls. Chris Gray and Nicky Solomon scored two goals while Lance Tillman, Ryan O'Connell, and Matt Wright scored one goal. Zac Tucci was excellent at the face-off, going 18-24 and collecting eight ground balls. Collin Krieg stayed strong in the cage making 17 saves to hold off the Brown attack. The Tar Heels scored the first three goals of the game to build an early lead. In the final eight minutes of the first quarter, Brown went on a 4-1 scoring run to tie it a four after one. The Bears took their first lead of the game at the 10:18 mark in the second quarter. The Tar Heels would use goals by Matt Wright and Jacob Kelly to retake the lead, but a late goal by Brown tied it a seven going into halftime. A goal by Nicky Solomon would give the lead back to UNC early in the third. Brown would answer with back-to-back goals by Ryan Aughavin to give them the 9-8 lead. The Tar Heel offense would turn up the intensity and reel off a 6-2 scoring run to end the game and seal the win. Cole Herbert's three goals would pace the Tar Heels throughout the run, eventually leading them to victory. The Tar Heels will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 27, when the team hosts No. 13 Johns Hopkins at Dorrance Field. Face-off is slated for 2 p.m.
