For the 11th time in 12 years – and 13th overall – the University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team has earned an Ivy League championships after a 14-11 win over Yale in the regular season finale. The Quakers (12-3, 6-1 Ivy League) claimed a share of the Ancient Eight crown alongside Princeton who also finished 6-1 in League play. The Tigers will serve as host team for the 2018 Ivy League Tournament May 4-6, and Penn will open as the No. 2 seed and play No. 3 Dartmouth at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 4. Zoe Belodeau and Erin Barry each had four goals for Penn, Belodeau finishing with seven points. They were joined in the scoring column by Caroline Cummings, Gabby Rosenzweig and Emily Rogers-Healion who each scored twice. Mikaila Cheeseman made nine saves in goal to pick up her 10th win of the season. Notes To Know… The women's lacrosse team's 13 Ivy League championships are the most by any Penn women's program. Penn has won three consecutive Ivy League championships after a run of eight straight from 2007-14. Since 2007, Penn is 77-7 in Ivy League play, posting a .917 winning percentage. Erin Barry scored four times – her fifth game in a row with 3+ goals. Zoe Belodeau's four goals give her 35 for the season – a new Penn single-season record by a rookie (Ali DeLuca, 34 in 1007) Belodeau and Gabby Rosenzweig are tied for the team lead with 67 points – each is tied for No. 5 all-time in a single season by a Quaker. Belodeau's 67 points are third-most all-time in a rookie season by an Ivy League player, trailing fellow 2018 freshman Kyla Sears (Princeton, 69) and Yale's Tracy Ball (68 in 1978) Erin Barry's 45 goals rank No. 5 in a single season by a Quaker Gabby Rosenzweig's 41 goals rank No. 8 in a single-season by a Quaker and give Penn multiple 40-goal scorers for the first time in program history. Belodeau's 32 assists rank No. 4 all-time in a single season by a Quaker. Emily Rogers-Healion had four points and her 155 points rank No. 8 all-time in a Penn career. Alex Condon had one assist in the game, giving her 137 points for her career – No. 11 all-time at Penn. Penn has scored 215 goals in 2018, eight away from tying the 2010 team's 223 goals for most all-time. How It Happened… It took a while for the Quakers to claim control of the game, as a Yale team with nothing but bragging rights on the line hung tight for the first half of the opening period. Neither team led by more than two goals until Penn dialed up a 5-0 run to close the first half with an 8-3 lead. Erin Barry had three goals in the first half while Belodeau and Rosenzweig each scored twice. The crucial stretch came immediately after Yale had tied the game, 3-3, with 10:44 to play in the opening period. Penn answered real quickly with two goals – Rosenzweig scoring just 18 seconds after Yale had leveled the game and Belodeau following just 26 seconds after Rosenzweig's tally. Those goals gave Penn a 6-3 lead and a pair of unassisted goals from Barry and Rosenzweig before halftime built the five-goal lead. Yale scored eight times in the second half – bolstered by an 11-4 edge on the draw – but Penn answered with six goals of its own to deny any comeback efforts. Belodeau struck twice in 2:16 after Yale had climbed within three at 12-9, effectively snuffing Yale's chances and securing Penn's Ivy crown.
