BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Twelve Camels combined for a single game school record 24 goals, leading Campbell over Presbyterian in its Big South opener 24-4 Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium. CU (4-7, 1-0 Big South) picked up a win in its Big South opener for the fourth straight season, handing Presbyterian (1-10, 0-1 Big South) its fifth consecutive loss. The Camels' 24 scores surpasses its previous single game mark of 23, set in last season's Big South Championship quarterfinal win over Radford in Buies Creek. Campbell owned the edge in shots (41-6), ground balls (24-8) and draw controls (22-6) in the win, also punching in 5-of-7 free position attempts. Sam Carey tallied a career-best five goals with an assist, plus a ground ball and a caused turnover in the win, while rookie Sam Luby scored three times off the bench, adding an assist and causing a turnover for the Camels. Melissa Placek also notched four points on two goals and two helpers, grabbing a game-high eight draw controls. Maggie Dolan and Annie Pazulski registered two goals and an assist in the win, while Alexis McDaniel collected two assists and a score. Ellie Allen and Sarah Paul also picked up two goals each for CU. Julia Markey paced the Campbell defense with four caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Amanda Chasin caused two PC miscues, also adding three ground balls. Lexie Patton notched a save with three ground balls. Sarah Marshall led the Blue Hose with a goal and an assist in the loss. On the defensive end, Paige Gacek picked up three ground balls with three caused turnovers. Campbell now leads the all-time series against the Blue Hose 7-0. Next up, the Camels finish out a four game home stand, hosting Big South foe Winthrop on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
