BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mia Creighton's overtime goal lifted visiting Winthrop over Campbell 13-12 Wednesday at Barker-Lane Stadium. Winthrop improved to 4-8 on the year with a win in its Big South opener, while Campbell dipped to 4-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Camels forced overtime, scoring twice in the final 1:30 of regulation with goals from Melissa Placek and Annie Pazulski, tying the score at 12-all before Creighton's game-winner. Wednesday's matchup featured six total ties, including four times in the first half before Creighton's second goal of the day gave Winthrop a 6-5 lead at the halftime break. The Eagles extended their lead to 10-7 with 22:39 to go in the second half with back to back goals from McKenna Blick and Lauren Asher before Campbell knotted the score with three straight scores. Placek and Pazulski connected at the 21:27 mark, followed by a free position strike from Sarah Paul with 15:41 on the clock. Laura Will's drive and score through contact with 12:52 to go tied the game at 10-10. Goals from Creighton (8:05) and Savanah Paton (1:57) returned a two score lead to the Eagles before Placek and Pazulski forced overtime. Creighton and Blick posted four goals each for Winthrop, while Asher and Paton both scored twice in the win. Lauren Morris also notched a goal to go along with two draw controls. Alaina Girani registered 19 saves with two ground balls in goal. Pazulski led Campbell with seven points, matching a career-high with four goals, adding three assists and a ground ball. Placek added six points on three goals and three assists, notching eight draw controls and two ground balls. Sam Carey tallied a game-high 10 draw controls, helping Campbell win the draw battle 19-8, tacking on a ground ball and a caused turnover. Laura Will also posted a goal and an assist, while Rose Prizzi recorded five ground balls with three caused turnovers. Lexie Patton, meanwhile, saved nine Winthrop shots. Next up, Campbell will make its Big South road debut at No. 24 High Point on Wednesday, April 10. CU returns home on April 13, hosting Gardner-Webb in its 2019 home finale.
