Site: Ann Arbor, Mich. (U-M Lacrosse Stadium) Score: #13 Michigan 12, #25 Towson 11 Records: U-M (9-0), Towson (0-6) Next U-M Event: Saturday, March 16 -- vs. Penn State (U-M Lacrosse Stadium), noon ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Molly Garrett fired the game-winning goal just under the crossbar with 10 seconds left in regulation to push the No. 13 University of Michigan women's lacrosse team past No. 25 Towson, 12-11, at U-M Lacrosse Stadium on Sunday (March 10). The Wolverines remain unbeaten at 9-0. U-M has won four games by two goals or fewer this season, including an 11-10 overtime win over then-No. 25 Dartmouth, where Garrett also provided the game-winning goal. With under a minute to go in the game, Towson regained possession and pushed up field to tie the game at 11 with 22 seconds remaining. Sophomore Maggie Kane won the ensuing draw for the Wolverines and Michigan called timeout with 15 seconds left to set up one final play. Garrett restarted play for Michigan near the left sideline and drove to the middle, where she fired the game-winner from the center of the eight meter with 10 seconds on the clock. In the first half, the game was tied at 1 after the first three and a half minutes, following an early goal from junior Chandler Kirby. Michigan then went on a 3-0 run to push its lead to 4-1 by the 14:51 mark. Junior Lilly Grass helped sparked the three-goal run, scoring the first goal and assisting on the second goal. Towson tallied its second goal of the game before Grass struck again, driving lefty from behind the cage and scoring low to put U-M up, 5-2, and force Towson to call timeout at 9:58. Tiger attacker Natalie Sulmonte then netted three of the game's next four goals to make it 6-5 Wolverines with 2:28 to play in the first half. Kane tallied her second goal of the day with 1:36 to go, giving the Maize and Blue a two-goal cushion, 7-5, at the halftime break. Towson started the second half with three unanswered goals from attacker Kaitlin Thornton to take its first lead of the game, 8-7, with just under 24 minutes to play. Michigan answered right back with four straight goals. Kane notched her third goal of the afternoon to start the run before senior Adriana Pendino set up sophomore Caitlin Muir for a goal and then Pendino and Muir both added goals to put U-M up, 11-8, with 9:10 remaining in the game. The half of runs continued, as Towson scored the next three goals to tie the game before Garrett's heroics gave Michigan its ninth straight win and extended its winning streak to 10 games, going back to 2018. Wolverine senior goalies Mira Shane (eight) and Alli Kothari (three) combined for 11 saves in the net and Kothari notched the win to move to 2-0 on the season. Michigan was perfect on clears, going 17-for-17, while the Wolverines outshot Towson 37-19 and held a 15-10 advantage on the draw. In addition to her game-winning goal, Garrett finished the day with two goals, five ground balls and three draw controls. Muir shined for U-M on the ride, causing four of Towson's 18 turnovers. The Wolverines will kick off their Big Ten schedule on Saturday (March 16) against Penn State at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. The conference matchup is slated to begin at noon.
