The Princeton women's lacrosse team is staring at a four-game, 15-day stretch to end its regular season, and all four of those games are Ivy League games. The prize of a sixth-straight league championship could be waiting for the Tigers at the end of that run. The non-league season ended Wednesday night on Sherrerd Field with a very good tune-up for that stretch run, as No. 15 Princeton hosted No. 10 Loyola, a team unbeaten and alone in first place in the Patriot League, and the result was a very solid victory for the Tigers, who got five goals from Elizabeth George and four from Kathryn Hallet to down the Greyhounds 14-10. "We are always excited for the chance to play good teams," said Princeton head coach Chris Sailer, "and Loyola is certainly a good team. We came out ready to play, and I thought we did a great job of building a lead and then holding them off in the second half. Now we know what's next for us. All of our goals are still there for us to achieve. Princeton played a nearly perfect first 12 minutes to build a 6-0 lead, and the game was never closer than three the rest of the way. George scored the first two goals of the night, and then four other players had one each during that opening run. The game was 10-2 late in the first and 10-3 at the break, and the Tigers equaled that largest lead of eight at 12-4 on Hallett's third goal 10 minutes into the second half. Loyola would get as close as 13-10 with 2:32 to play, but George sealed it with her fifth with exactly one minute left. Princeton came into the game ninth in Division I assists per game at 7.80, but only two of the 14 goals would be assisted. George had one of those assists, giving her a six-point evening. Kyla Sears had two goals for Princeton, giving her 93 for her career, and Tess D'Orsi had a goal and an assist, including probably the sweetest move of the night on a change of direction that froze the defense and left her alone for a layup for the third goal of the game. Sam Fish made 11 saves for the Tigers, many of which were right on the doorstep. Shots (28-27 Loyola) and turnovers (11 for Princeton, 10 for Loyola) were almost even, and ground balls were exactly even (12-12). Marge Donovan had two more caused turnovers and four more ground balls, while Nonie Andersen had six draw controls and a caused turnover. Next up for Princeton is the final home game of the year, as the Tigers host Harvard Saturday at 1. The 1994 NCAA championship team will be honored at that game on its 25th anniversary. Following that will be trips to Yale, Penn and Cornell in an eight-day stretch. Princeton is currently 2-1 in the Ivy League; Penn is the lone Ivy unbeaten.
