Junior attackman Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) led three Dolphins with four points as the fourth-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-7 victory over NYIT on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field. The Dolphins, who played the Bears in the regular season for the first time since 1993, scored the first 14 goals of the game, including 11 in the opening quarter. Senior midfielder James Felix (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford), who made his first career start, started the scoring at the 13:53 mark with an unassisted goal. Hutchings followed 12 seconds later with his first of the day. Freshman attackman Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) recorded his ninth goal of the year 30 seconds later off a pass from freshman midfielder Colin Sypek (Lake Worth, Fla./American Heritage School). Senior midfielder/attackman Ryan Cosgrove (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) made it 4-0 at the 12:32 mark with his 10th goal of the season to force a timeout by the Bears. Following 4:17 of scoreless play, Hutchings scored with 8:15 left off a feed from Sypek. Junior attackman Riley Larson (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) scored 49 seconds later after taking a pass from Sheehan. After junior midfielder Hans Zimmer (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) tallied his fifth goal of the year with 4:46 left, Larson scored 20 seconds later off another feed from Sheehan. Hutchings made it 9-0 with 3:04 remaining in the quarter after collecting a feed from Larson. He scored again 54 seconds later for his 16th tally of the season. Zimmer completed the scoring in the quarter with 32 seconds left off a pass from junior midfielder Ross Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Siena). Larson opened the scoring in the second quarter at the 13:29 mark with an unassisted goal, his 15th tally of the year. Following a turnover by NYIT, senior midfielder Josh Slowinski (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) recorded his ninth goal of the year with 10:16 remaining. Cosgrove completed Le Moyne's opening run at the 6:40 mark after collecting a feed from Sypek. Lenny Innammorato got the Bears on the scoreboard with 5:43 left off a pass from Andrew Alban. The Dolphins scored the last three goals of the quarter to take a 17-1 lead at halftime. Filtch netted his seventh goal of the season in a 5-on-5 situation with 5:26 to go in the stanza. Sophomore attackman Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy/Stony Brook) made it 16-1 with 4:36 remaining. Sypek ended the half's scoring with 18 seconds left off a feed from Cosgrove. Le Moyne scored the opening two goals of the third quarter. Freshman attackman John Howes (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) tallied his fifth goal of the year just 24 seconds into the half off a pass from sophomore midfielder Kaiden Tubbert (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Bridgton Academy). Andrews scored in an extra-man situation with 10:28 left to make it 19-1. Joseph Duchnowski got the Bears within 19-2 with 2:07 left in the quarter, but senior faceoff specialist Zac Cooley (Webster, N.Y./Pittsford/Hobart) won the ensuing faceoff and raced up field to net his second career goal. The Bears started the scoring in the fourth quarter as Austin Fitzpatrick scored 18 seconds into the period. Howes pushed Le Moyne's lead back to 18 with 10:37 left after collecting a feed from Andrews, who followed with his fourth goal of the year with 9:14 remaining off a pass from freshman midfielder John Bergan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee). After Michael Trainor and Bergan (off a pass from Howes) traded goals, NYIT scored the last three goals of the game. Innammorato netted his 16th goal of the season with 4:16 remaining. Duchnowski followed with his 12th of the year with 2:49 left off a pass from Jason Sullivan, who then fed Innammorato 32 seconds for the final goal of the game. Junior goalkeeper Riley Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Onondaga C.C.) recorded three saves (against one goal) in the first half to earn his sixth win of the year. Brian Jockers took the loss for the Bears after allowing nine goals (against two saves) in 11:56 between the pipes. The Dolphin defense forced eight of NYIT's 25 turnovers and limited the Bears to just six shots in the first half. Le Moyne (6-1), which has won six straight games, returns to action on Saturday at seventh-ranked and defending national champion Merrimack College at 1:00 p.m.
