Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse opened the 2019 regular season on Saturday afternoon on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium with a visit from Saint Joseph's. Dylan Beckwith and Taylor Strough both netted hat tricks, but the Stags were unable to keep up with the high-powered Hawks in a 21-10 defeat. Beckwith totaled five points on the day, adding a pair of assists to his fourth-career hat trick. Strough's hat trick was his second as a Stag, and the sophomore also dished out an assist to set a new personal best with four points. The Stags also got a multi-goal outing from Patrick Drake, who scored a pair in his collegiate debut. Brendan Quinn and Jack Brennan rounded out the goal scoring with one apiece. Quinn added two assists to his marker for the fourth three-point day of his Fairfield career. Brian Reda also handed out a pair of helpers in his first collegiate game, and Tyler Wuchte added an assist in his first game as a Stag. Max McGuire started in the cage for Fairfield and made one save. Rookie James Corasaniti finished the effort and made six stops. The defense in front of the keeper was led by Andrew Murrow with a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover, with Jake Tymon also notching a caused turnover from the LSM spot. Saint Joseph's (2-0) was fueled by five goals and an assist by Ryan Doran and a five-goal showing by Shane Fable. Zach Cole controlled the action from the X at 21-for-28 on the draw and contributed to the Hawks' attack with two goals and two assists. Mike Adler made 12 saves to earn the win in the cage. The Stags' first road trip of the season will be the shortest as Fairfield heads across town to meet Sacred Heart on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. The Pioneers moved to 1-1 this afternoon with an 18-11 win over Furman. Action returns to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on the following Saturday, March 2, for a 1 p.m. visit from #8/9 Rutgers live on the Lax Sports Network.
