Following a close, competitive first half that saw the Wagner men's lacrosse team jump out to a 4-2 second-quarter lead, five-time Northeast Conference (NEC) champion Bryant tallied seven unanswered third-quarter goals in pulling away for a 13-4 victory at Hameline Field on Saturday. The Seahawks opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by reigning NEC Rookie of the Week Stephen Dwyer, as the Somerville, NJ buried a shot from in close with 11:51 left in the opening quarter. After Bryant got one back to tie it, the Seahawks went ahead 2-1 on a blast by senior midfielder Spencer Kaufman, off a Dwyer feed. With the game tied at 2-2, Wagner pushed in consecutive goals, bridging the first and second quarters to make it 4-2, a pair of unassisted scores from sophomore attackman Tim Schmidt, and Kaufman, the latter a brilliant individual effort as he dug out a ground ball in traffic before breaking free for the score. The Bulldogs closed the half by poking in three scores in eking out a 5-4 halftime lead before putting the game away with their third-quarter barrage. Kaufman (2g) and Dwyer (1g, 1a) paced Wagner with two points apiece while Schmidt added one (1a). In addition to winning eight faceoffs, junior midfielder Nick Warren led the Seahawks in ground balls with five while senior goalie Matt Sefcik, fresh off a career-high 22-save effort in last Saturday's 14-11 victory at NJIT, was credited with 15 saves on the day. Bryant was led by a five-point performance from Marc O'Rourke (3g, 2a), while Mason Balch (2g, 1a) and Nick Beeson added three and two points, respectively. In goal, freshman Luke Carracciolo came up with 14 saves on the day. Statistically, the Bulldogs held the upper hand in shots (42-24), ground balls (31-27) and faceoffs (12-9). Bryant was successful on its lone extra-man opportunity while Wagner did not have any EMO chances on the day as the Bulldogs did not a commit a penalty on the afternoon. With the victory, Bryant improves to 3-7 on the season and 1-2 in NEC play while the Seahawks fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in league. The Green & White are next in action on Saturday, April 6 when they make the long trek to Moon Township, PA to face Robert Morris with faceoff between the Seahawks and the Colonials set for 1:00 p.m.
