Twelve different players found the net and the defense turned in another excellent performance as the Union College men's lacrosse team remained undefeated with a 15-4 victory over Springfield College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium. Junior Kerry Lyne led the offensive attack for Union (3-0) with four goals and five points, while 11 other Dutchmen scored one time apiece in a well-balanced offensive performance. Senior John Edmonds registered a game-high three assists, while senior Jack Sullivan and sophomore Keaton McCann added a goal and an assist each. Union won the game with a dominant first half, limiting Springfield to long-range shots on the defensive end while scoring seemingly at will at the other end. The Dutchmen outshot the Pride 34-10 over the first 30 minutes of play and scored 10 unanswered goals to take full control of the contest. Sophomore Hayden Frey got the scoring started 46 seconds into the game, followed by two in 31 seconds from Lyne and sophomore Brian Davis that put Union up 3-0 just 3:36 in. The home team added four more goals to take a commanding 7-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter, then outshot Springfield 16-4 in the second stanza while scoring the only three goals to lead by double digits at the half. The Dutchmen rolled back the offensive attack in the second half, but still managed to outscore the visitors 5-4 and outshoot the opposition 24-23 over the final 30 minutes as well. Senior Jack Santilli had another strong game in goal for Union, making seven saves without allowing a goal in 37:53 of action. Junior Graham Goldheim made three saves in 17:54 of play as well for the Dutchmen before freshman Reed Karaska closed out the contest. For the game, Union outshot Springfield 58-33 and also posted a 45-28 edge in ground balls. Union will look to remain unbeaten on Tuesday, when the team begins a four-game road trip at Mount St. Mary College beginning at 4 p.m.
